Robert "REX" Rex

Robert William Rex Sr., age 60 years, went home with his Lord Thursday, March 10, 2016, with his family by his side. He was born on April 4, 1955, in Washington D.C., the son of William and Irene (Kilborne) Rex. He was known simply as REX to all his friends. Rex graduated top of his class from Lakeville High School and later received his BA from U of M in Flint. He had a love for the church and taught Sunday school for many years. Rex was united in marriage to Erica Brownfield on August 19, 2003. He worked for General Motors at both Fisher Body in Flint and at Steering Gear in Saginaw, retiring after 30 years of service. After retiring he was called back to work at Nexteer, which is where he currently was employed. Rex was a member of UAW Local 699 and the Vassar Eagles 2380. Rex was hardworking and very proud of his trades and took pride in teaching his many apprentices. He was a very loved and respected man, who loved his family and enjoyed providing and spending time with them. Rex had a love for the outdoors, especially when he could get out and ride his Harley. Sometimes he would ride a 1,000 miles in a day! He and Erica enjoyed their travels over the years, but their greatest joy came with the arrival of grandchildren. Surviving family include his wife, Erica; children, Billy Rex Jr., Joshua Rex and Stacey (Chris) Teffole; grandchildren, Douglas, Brooklyn, Clayton, Christopher and Lincoln; sister, Cindy (Bob) Vandesteene; brother, Tim Rex; mother-in-law, Grace Brownfield and many nieces and nephews. Rex was preceded in death by his father, William Rex and a dear friend, Bill Gouine. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 14, 2016, at the Penzien-Steele Funeral Home, 149 N. Main St. in Vassar. Dr. Rick Flanders officiating. The family will gather with friends on Monday from 12 noon until the time of the service. Immediately following the service there will be a luncheon at the Vassar Eagles, 651 State Rd. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the wishes of the family.
