Cynthia Lucas Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 27, 2008.
Cynthia Jane Godbey Lucas departed this life on Thursday, November 27, 2008. There was no pain. God was always by her side during her short two year battle with COPD and Emphysema. The moment her heart stopped beating on this earth, she was in Heaven with Our Lord, just as it states in scripture 2 Corinthians 5:8 “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Cindy was born to Roy J. Godbey, Jr. and Garnet “Louise Godbey (formally Garnet Louise Saunders of Kentucky) on July 9, 1949, and was raised with her three siblings, Don, Judy and John on Coopers Creek at Big Chimney, WV. Cindy was preceded in death by the love of her life and high school sweetheart, James “Jim Alan Lucas, of Blue Creek, WV; father, Roy, nephew, Brian Godbey, son of her brother John and wife, Diane and the other little Godbeys that didn’t make it into this world. Cindy leaves behind two sons, the most precious in her life here upon this earth, Scott and Jimmy. These two sons gave her loving daughters-in-law and grandchildren. Sons, John Scott Lucas, his wife, Kay and three children, Dylan and Kaleb of Hope Mills, NC and Ashley and husband, Brandon Cochran of Yorktown, VA; James “Jimmy Alan Lucas II, his wife, Cindy and their three children, Kayla, Jorden and Brandon of St. Albans, WV; stepdaughter, Melissa Dawn Lucas, daughter of Jim Lucas of Blue Creek, WV and mother, Rose Taylor of Sissonville, WV. She also leaves behind her loving mother, Louise Godbey; brother, Don and wife, Bonnie Godbey; sister, Judy (Reed) and her husband, Al Breaux of Newburgh, Indiana; brother, John and wife Diane Godbey; many nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends. One special friend, Sue Frye, who invited Cindy to church and fed her the word through many long conversations. In 2005, she rededicated her life to Christ, and on that very night, took membership at Temple Baptist Church in North Charleston. Cindy described her experience as being like a sponge, soaking up God’s word, by reading her bible and learning so much in what seemed like a short time. She loved the Christian fellowship, praising the Lord, the testimonies of brothers and sisters in Christ, and the feeling of being on Holy Ground, with all the music as you stepped inside the Church. Services will be 2 PM, Monday, December 1, 2008 at Bartlett Burdette Cox Funeral Home with the Rev. Lawrence Slater officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar, WV. A gathering of family and friends will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. An online guest registry is available at www.bartlettburdettecox.com. Bartlett Burdette Cox Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jock and family, I was so saddened to hear of Cindy's death. I remember her as the pretty little girl who adored her brother Jock in grade school. Treasure her legacy and I hope you are comforted by her faith.
