Tommy A. Spanos, 69, of Elyria, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011 following a short illness. He was born December 11, 1941 in Elyria. Tommy served three years in the United States Army. He worked at the General Motors plant in Elyria until he was transferred to the plant in Adrian, MI. He retired after 36 years. He belonged to AMVETS Post #32, United Polish Club in Elyria, Vermilion Gun Club, and Northern Ohio Winnies. He was an avid fisherman, loved camping and traveling, and spending time with his family. Mr. Spanos is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ingrid of Elyria, formerly of West Germany; children Shari (David) Roark of Kentucky, Michelle Spanos of Elyria, Andrew (Megan) Spanos of Elyria, Michael Spanos of Sullivan, OH, and honorary daughter Rebecca Calabrese of Elyria; grandchildren Ashliegh, Christine, Tiffany, Shalyn, Gabrielle, Andrew, Anna; great-grandchildren Brianna, Savannah, Shayla, Michael; sisters Grace Scheneman, Georgia (Joe) Sanders, Mary (Doug) Love; uncle of many. He was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Thelma (nee Mersinas) Spanos; grandfather Tommy A. Spanos; nephew Marc Amato. Memorial service will be 2pm Sunday, May 1 at AMVETS Post #32, 11087 South Middle Avenue, Elyria. Chaplain Kevin Cleary will officiate. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Busch Funeral and Crematory Services, Elyria.
