Ernest M. Vogt, 66, passed away June 1, 2011 at Cedar Sinai Hospital. He was born January 28, 1945 in Bremerton, Washington, and has lived in Barstow for 30 years. Ernie served in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966. He was an aircraft woodworker, and served at Travis AFB, CA, Hickam AFB, HI, Siagon, Vietnam and Takli, Thailand. Ernie attended Randsburgh Grammar School, and graduated from Jackson High School in 1962. After serving in the military, he furthered his education by receiving an AA from San Joaquin Delta College in 1969, a BA from San Diego State University in 1973, and his Masters from Cal State San Bernardino in 1989. Ernie was a teacher and coach for the Barstow Unified School District from December of 1980 to September of 1983. He then went to the Silver Valley School District in 1983 and retired in March of 2007. At Silver Valley High School he taught Social Studies, Math, and Woodshop, was the Athletic Director and coached the Football Team. He also served on the Barstow USD School Board from December 2001 to December 2010. Ernie was active in his community, and held membership in the AmVets Post #5277, VFW Post #2143, the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3637, and the Barstow Elks Lodge #1920. Surviving Ernie are his wife Elena, and special friends Robert and Rhonda Royalty, and Allen and Susan Ward, Ed and Snookie Baron, Brian and Shirley Boitano, Amber Jean Vogt, Dorothy Clark, Will Chambers, Charles and Sue Edwards, Nani Edwards and Bill, Bill and Cary Elliott, Janet Harris, Gary Kemp, Carolyn and Bob Koff, Janice McKinney, Jerry and Kay McKinzie, Cindi and Leonard Marr, Justine Merritt, Dick and Linda Oneto, Jerry Pearse, Clyde Ramos, Bob Rosenthal, Tim and Barb Reno, Doug and Josie South, David and Arlene Troyer, Ben Sawtelle, Sean and Amy Torgrude and Frank and Susie Vogt. Services for Ernie will be on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Mead Mortuary, 36930 Irwin Road, Barstow. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 am, with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 am. Burial will be at a later date in Oceanside, CA.
