Departed this life on the morning of June 28, 2010, Herbert Berlinsky, husband of Jaclyn Silverman Berlinsky. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Berlinsky are invited to attend the funeral services of the former Tuesday, June 29, 2010 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL at two o'clock. Interment, Emanu-El Cemetery, "Maryville".
Herbert was born January 1, 1924 in Charleston, SC, the son of Philip and Bella Berlinsky. He attended The Citadel and served with the United States Army during World War II, where he received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a member of Synagogue Emanu-El and Beth Elohim Temple, the Hebrew Benevolent Society, Charleston Jewish Federation and the Jewish War Veterans. Mr. Berlinsky was the Co-founder and President of Berle Manufacturing Company.
He is survived by his wife of Charleston, SC; three children: Lynda K. Ballaban (Steve) of Bloomington, IN, Dr. Randall O. Krawcheck (Gena) of Richmond, VA and Eric L. Krawcheck (Peggy) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one sister: Barbara B. Stine (Gordan) of Charleston, SC; one brother: Danny Berlinsky (Ruth) of Charleston, SC; five grandchildren: Jason, Jordyn and Julia Russo, Katie and Maddy Krawcheck.
Memorials may be made to College of Charleston, Herbert & Jaclyn Berlinsky Academic Scholarship for Low Income Students, 66 George Street, Charleston, SC 29401, Synagogue Emanu-El, 5 Windsor Drive, Charleston, SC 29407 or Beth Elohim Temple, 90 Hasell Street, Charleston, SC 29401.
