Melvin Morris Strickland was born April 18,1986 in Gary, IN to the union of Jacqueline Shepherd and Christopher Strickland. He was the only son born to this union. Melvin accepted Jesus Christ at a young age. Melvin was educated in the Gary Public School System. He relocated to Indianapolis, IN with his family where he graduated from Ben Davis High School. He enjoyed hanging out with his family and friends. He loved sports and playing pool with his stepfather, George and his Uncle Tim. Melvin was a loving father to his son; Melvontae and two daughters; Maleigh and Myriana. He did what he could to make them happy. When he spoke of them he spoke proudly of them. Melvin was also a great uncle and a lovable brother. Melvin was preceded in death by his grandmother; Bennie Will Shepherd and grandfather; Jessie Strickland as well as one uncle; Michael Higgins. Melvin leaves behind to cherish his memories his parents; Jacqueline (George T.) Higgins Jr. and Christopher Strickland, grandparents; George (Sina) Higgins Sr. and Willa Strickland, five sisters; LaKeisha Shepherd, LaTanya (Marvin) Dodds, Tanaka Shepherd, LaTrice Shepherd and Jacquela Higgins, two daughters; Maleigh Strickland, Myriana Strickland, his only son; Melvontae Strickland, four nephews Ariq and Arrion Dodds, DeMarques Smith, DeAnthony Shepherd, four nieces; Amaria Dodds, Leasija Shepherd, JaRenae Higgins and Jacquelinta, two aunts; Diane (Duke) Collins and Monica King, two uncles Anthony Higgins and Tim Jolly, cousins Bopeep, Breyon and Khandi Collins, Nickey King, special friends; Michael Allen and Omar Ramos and a host of family and friends.
