STEELE, James DeWitt Carter, born in Memphis on December 24, 1948 and died in Nashville peacefully on April 1, 2013 surrounded by his family. Carter's two greatest loves were his family and fishing at his farm "BelleCamp". He graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy and the University of the South at Sewanee. Carter received his M.S degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and enthusiastically supported the Big Orange. He had a long, successful career in the commercial real estate industry, specializing in healthcare properties. Carter was preceded in death by his parents, Frances Carter Steele and Thomas Wardlaw Steele. He is survived by his wife of 42-years, Peggy Campbell Steele; his two children, Campbell Carter Steele and James Nathan Steele (Amy); his two grandchildren, Marco Luis Steele and Anna Mae Steele; his brothers and sisters, Eric Steele Self (Chuck), Wardlaw Steele (Michelle), Laurie Steele Hilbert (Todd), Edie Campbell Mitchell (Bill) and Howell Hooper Campbell, III (Susan), as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and other family members. The family will receive friends from 10am-11am Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the Mount Olivet Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted at 11am Saturday in the funeral home chapel with burial to follow in the Mount Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Faith Family Medical Clinic, 326 21st Avenue North, Nashville, TN 37203, Guardianship and Trusts Corporation, 95 White Bridge Road, Suite 330, Nashville, TN 37205, or to another charity of one's choice.
