Stephen Fields Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 5, 2013.
Fields, Dr. Stephen A., 70 went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 5, 2013. Dr. Fields was born October 29, 1942 in Wichita, Kansas, the first of five sons, to parents Alfred and Lucille Fields. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. He is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Rev. Christopher M. (Amy) Fields of Oklahoma City, OK, Dr. Andrew S. Fields, Dr. Aaron M. (Jill) Fields, of Pueblo, CO, and Angela B. (Jared) Enders; grandchildren, Julianne Fields, Evan Fields, Megan Fields, and Allie Enders; brothers, Timothy J. (Linda) Fields of Nashville, TN, William J. Fields, Phillip R. (Glena) Fields, and Daniel E. (Jeanne) Fields of Oklahoma City, OK.; and many nephews and nieces. Steve loved his family dearly. He often expressed to his wife, "You are the love of my life." As a father, he cherished each of his children, and he was exceedingly proud of each one for their God-given talents and attributes. Papa adored his grandchildren who he said are "the light of my life." He loved hearing them sing "Jesus Loves Me" when they came to visit! Dr. Fields was devoted to his patients as a Family Practice Physician for 40 years. He was inspired to become a physician following his childhood experience with polio. He also felt called by God to this medical mission. He received his medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine & Biosciences. Every patient he cared for became very special to him. Dr. Fields has been described as a man "larger than life." Always friendly, he never knew a stranger. He loved new challenges and adventures in both his professional and personal life. He passionately tried new ideas to better serve and care for his patients. He enjoyed being a pilot, flying to his favorite destination, Beaver Lake, AR, "God's Heaven on Earth." Never wanting to retire, in the last years of his life, one could always find him reading his Bible for hours, including his favorite verses, John 3:16 and Psalm 23. He was always thankful for his Christian heritage. Funeral: 10 am, Friday, May 10, 2013 at Metropolitan Baptist Church, 525 W. Douglas, Wichita, KS 67213. Memorial contributions may be given to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202; Youth Horizons, 1601 E.
