Barbara (Cone) Gassett, of Chelmsford, formerly of Newtonville passed away on June 2, 2013. She was 85. Born and raised in Newton she had lived in the same house on Walnut St. for 76 years before moving to Chelmsford. She graduated from Newton Gigh School and had worked as a Traffic Supervisor for 22 years for the Newton Police at the Claflin and Horace Mann Schools. She and her late husband had owned and operated the Lil Peach store on Washington St. in Newtonville for many years. Barbara was also very active with the Girl Scouts and had received a Lifetime Achievement Award from them. She was also active with the winter camping program, Polar Bears, for scouts. She was the beloved wife of the late Lawson W. "Bill" Gassett Jr., the loving mother of Norman and his wife Patricia of West Newton, Linda of West Roxbury, William and his wife Monique of Marlboro and Sharon Rigazio of Chelmsford. Sister of Elsie Lord of Chelmsford and the late Jean Ruoff and is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave . Needham on Wed June 5 from 4-8 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Service and interment are private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St, Framingham MA 01701.

I thank God for the fond memories of visiting and spending pool time with the family. Most of all, she was the most adventerous woman I have ever met who had a sparkle in her eyes that I can still remember. I still have one of the cat toys she gave me for Christmas over 15 years ago.
