John McLarnon Obituary

Published by Cavanagh Family Funeral Homes, Inc. & Private Crematory - Norwood on Aug. 9, 2013.
John M. McLarnon, Jr., 89, of Sharon Hill, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2013, at his home surrounded by members of his family. Born April 2, 1924, he was the devoted husband of the late Alice T. Browne, and father to 12 children; grandfather and great-grandfather to their children. A life-long resident of Sharon Hill, John was closely involved in the lives and interests of his family and friends, supporting them in any way needed. A naval veteran of WWII, initially employed by Atlantic Richfield, he spent most of his career working for Fisher Scientific Company. He was active in local Democratic politics both as a younger man, and then later in retired life; involved with his church, Holy Spirit Parish, teaching the 8-grade Saturday morning scholarship class when his older children were in the parish elementary school; and participated in community projects, such as tax preparation for the elderly after his retirement from Fisher. Almost to the end of his days, he was advising family members and friends on investment strategies and teaching them the basics of how to be financially safe. John is survived by his children, Alice T. Roggie (Shelter Island, NY); Kathleen A. Bush (Silver Spring, MD); Dr. John M. McLarnon, III (Millersville, PA); Regina M. McLarnon (Media, PA); Maureen T. McLarnon (Media, PA); Stephen R. McLarnon, Sr. (Media, PA); Maryellen V. McLarnon (Sharon Hill, PA); Eileen E. Szkil (West Chester, PA); Dr. Christopher R. McLarnon (Exeter, NH); Patricia H. McLarnon (Secane, PA); Richard M. McLarnon (Media, PA); Bernadette McLarnon Jameson (Norwood, PA); 19 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Richard P. McLarnon, of Richardson, Texas; his brother's children, Margaret Townsend and Mark McLarnon, and their families. Visitation/Service: Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Saturday, Aug 17th from -10:00-11:00 am at the Cavanagh Funeral Home; 301 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA 19074 followed by his memorial service at 11:00 am Internment: private. I'm sorry to be just getting around to offering my condolences to the McLarnon family but I've just recently been made aware of your dad's passing. He was a man of few words, but those were worth listening to, and I enjoyed our differences of opinion.

To the McLarnon Family,

Sorry to have just heard of your Dad's passing. He was a great man and I know you'll cherish his memory. Having lost my Dad last February, I know the void the passing of members of that generation leaves. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
