He grew up south of Arispe on various farms with his family. Upon graduating from Arispe High School in 1941 as Salutatorian, he entered the US Army and became a Medic and served in Europe in the 1st Army Division from 1942-1945. While in the service of his country, he received two purple hearts while performing his duties. Upon return from the service in 1945, he returned to a farm south of Creston and custom farmed for a number of years before beginning his longtime farming career. During the 60 plus years Duane worked the land. He held conservation of the land very close to his heart. These efforts earned him the Conservation Award of Merit. Duane's artistic talents were shared with many people. These talents included wood carvings, drawings, and the many school buses he drew and cut out for his niece and nephew. Duane also added writing to his resume in later life. He wrote a bibliography of his experiences in the WW II. All the illustrations were drawn by Duane as well. Duane was also a cancer survivor. Duane is survived by his brother Wendell Wilson of Afton, two nephews Steve (wife Cindy) Wilson of Afton, Darwin (wife Edie) Tuttle of Bonners Ferry, ID; two nieces Sheila (husband Kenny) Brown of Afton; Joyce Tuttle of Scottsbluff, Neb. and many great-nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Lauren Wilson, his sister Viva Tuttle, sisters-in-law Peggy Wilson, Marie Wilson, Lucille Wilson and his brother-in-law Donald Tuttle.
