Dr. Reverend Walter L. Weston, 77, died on June 13, 2014, at Wesleyan Village in Elyria after a long illness. He was born in Canton, Ohio, on July 25, 1936. He served as pastor to United Methodist churches in Conneaut, Akron, Lorain, Cleveland, Youngstown, and Copley. Dr. Weston authored six books on the power of prayer and healing through faith. He traveled to India in search of miracles, to South Africa as an AIDS missionary, and to Haiti to build villages. As a social activist, Rev. Weston fought for Civil Rights and was an early Vietnam War protestor, working for peace during Akron's racial riots and at anti-war rallies in Washington. He took his family on camping trips throughout the United States, including two cross country trips during the 1960s and 1970s, and he loved playing cards and working jigsaw puzzles. His grandchildren remember him para-sailing, swimming, boogie boarding, and playing with them on the beaches of the Outer Banks. He is survived by his wife Dana (nee Swonger), daughters Claudia Taller (Paul), Beth Gonzales (Dino), Faith Stang (Steve); grandchildren Allison, Melissa, and Claire Taller, Eric (Tera) and Rachel Gonzales, and Jessica, Megan, Matthew Stang; great grandson Carter Gonzales; sisters Cora Seese (Ralph) and Gayle Belles (Charles), and brother Thomas Weston (Bobbi). He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Hazel, and brothers Donald (Carryl survives him), Bernard, and Gary. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 20, from 6-8pm at Busch Funeral Home, 32000 Detroit Road, Avon, Ohio 44011. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 21, from 2-4pm at Church of the Lakes, 5944 Fulton Drive, Canton, Ohio 44718. The family requests donations to the United Methodist Church's Global Ministries in lieu of flowers. www.buschcares.com
