Joan Sylvester

AVON LAKE – Joan Sylvester, 79, of Avon Lake passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born January 3, 1935 in Clarksburg, WV and moved to Avon Lake 45 years ago. Joan received her associates degree from Lorain County Community College and was employed as a registered nurse at the Bayview Hospital, St. John West Shore Hospital and retired from the Grafton Correctional Facility. She loved quilting, doll collecting, traveling and gambling trips, and being with her family and grandchildren. Mrs. Sylvester is survived by three sons, Steve (Michele) of Avon Lake, David (Rhea) of Vermilion and Mark (Kim) of Cuyahoga Falls; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Ann Hackenberg (John) of Rocky River. She was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence R.; a sister Wilma Waite and her parents, Luigi and May M. Gambazza (nee Gianettino). Friends may call at the BUSCH FUNERAL HOME, 32000 Detroit Road, Avon from 2-4 & 6-8pm Sunday. Services will be held in the A-Frame Cemetery Chapel at Resthaven Memory Gardens, 3700 Center Road, Avon Monday June 2 at 11:00am. Chaplain Jeff Sweitzer of the Hospice of the Western Reserve will officiate.
