Mrs. Mildred "Miki" Wade Sayers

Mildred Wade "Miki" Sayers age 94 of Sturgis, Michigan passed away early Thursday morning, August 11, 2016 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. She was born August 26, 1921 in Fort Jackson, South Carolina daughter of the late Orville and Irene (Wade) Guthrie. Miki resided in Sturgis since 1952. Her early life was lived at Fort Benning Georgia where at the age of 16 she graduated in 1937 from high school the Valedictorian of her class. While living at Fort Benning she was an administrative assistant for General Omar Bradley during WWII. On March 23, 1944 she married Raymond G. Sayers in Columbus, Georgia. He died March 9, 1974. In 1953 Mrs. Sayers accepted a position with the National Carbon Coated Paper Company in Sturgis the company was later renamed Sturgis Newport Business Forms and she retired in 1985. She was a longtime active member of the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis where she sang in the choir for over 40 years. Mrs. Sayers was an avid walker and enjoyed old movies, old hymns, was an amazing baker and those who knew her will never forget her true love for dark chocolate. She is survived by two sons: Michael R. (Cheryl) Sayers of Boca Raton, Florida and David (Amy) Sayers of Sturgis; three grandchildren: Dr. Stefani (Jeremy) Martin of Boca Raton, Florida, McLaine (Andrew) Mast of Ypsilanti and Shelby Jones of Kalamazoo; two great grandchildren: J.R. Martin and Mackenna Martin and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters: Elizabeth Taylor and Kitty Gladfelter. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. A private memorial graveside service and burial of the ashes will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis at a later date.
