Glen A. O'Brien, 78, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016 in San Antonio, TX. Glen was born on March 5, 1938 in Grand Rapids, MI to J. Douglas O'Brien, Sr., and Rose Miller O'Brien. He attended his school years in Hopkins, MN and served six years in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was preceded in death by his parents. Glen is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Paula K. O'Brien; son, Robert "Bobby" O'Brien; granddaughter, Hannah O'Brien; and his two brothers, J. Douglas O'Brien, Jr. (wife Barbara) and Terry O'Brien (wife Cathie), and several nieces and nephews. Glen was a star athlete at Hopkins High School where he played football, was in the choir, played clarinet in the band, was a speed skater and took part in several clubs. In the spring of 1955 he was chosen as an American Field Services Exchange student and spent the summer in Germany. My younger brother, Glen, was a helper, story-teller, great fisherman, also a great chef, and would add his stories to any you might offer. Glen would help you for as long as you needed help. We had stories about his getting a fish hook in his thumb and lip a couple of times. He was incredibly able to fix most anything with his great knowledge of tools and how they worked. He had a belly-busting funny story about a customer coming to the store asking for a "flushie-ting". He was a fine fisherman and knew when and how to get the wily things into the boat. Glen would pep up a party with his real people jokes. He remembered what you had been doing last time you met. Glen had lots of opinions ,and how to make things get better. I will miss Glen as his older brother, friend, co-fisherman, lover of cooked sea food, and how we can catch more fish and how the best way to cook them was. Glen had lots of smiles, lots of friendship, and lots caring and concern. May GOD have some loving words to welcome him into heaven and a few fishing adventures to get him started on his well-deserved place to retire and relax and recall. We love you Glen as does GOD. Your brother Doug.
