Mr. James W. McInerney Jr.

James W. McInerney, Jr., age 83, passed away in the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts on Sunday, March 12, 2017. Born in South Boston, Massachusetts on July 21, 1933, he was the son of the late James W. McInerney and Josephine (Antonitis) Perry. He was raised in Southie and graduated from South Boston High School with the Class of 1954. After graduation, Jim enlisted in the United States Army National Guard. He proudly served for many years in the B Company, 1st Battalion, 101st Infantry Regiment, retiring as a Staff Sergeant. After his discharge from the Army National Guard, Jim began taking classes at Northeastern University, earning his Associates Degree, focusing on Business, in 1961. Jim married his wife, Ann Marie MacDonald, on October 13, 1962, and together the young couple made their home in Walpole to raise their family. He went on to work at his father-in-law's store, MacDonald Paint in Norwood, and later opened Mac's Paint and Wallpaper in Foxborough in 1969, which he operated for 30 years. In his retirement, Jim took a concierge position with Cabot Estates, retiring just this past November. From a young age, Jim was deeply interested in sports. He was named Athlete of the Year by the City of Boston Parks and Recreation Department in both 1955 and 1956, for his outstanding efforts in basketball and baseball. His love for sports continued as he was an avid Boston sports fan, and could recall any fact about any athletic event. Jim was a long-time member of the National Rifle Association, Local Board 34, Suffolk County in Roxbury. He loved music, especially that of Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, and the Rat Pack. He was quick with a joke and had a great sense of humor. His life centered around his friends, many of which called him by his nick names, Jimmy Zin, Jimmy Boy, and TLB; his faith, he was a long time communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church; and most importantly his family. Beloved husband of the late Ann Marie C. (MacDonald) McInerney. Loving father of William J. McInerney of Tega Cay, South Carolina, Debra A. Boush and her husband Steven of Walpole, John P. McInerney and his wife Leanne of Litchfield, New Hampshire, and the late James W. McInerney, III. Cherished grandfather of 8. Brother of Carol Cartier of Chelmsford, Marie Goldman of Arizona, Robert Perry of Raynham, Josephine Alldridge of Boston, Kenneth Perry of Woburn, Marilyn Cushing of West Roxbury, Diane Van Epps of Ohio, Eric McInerney of Connecticut, Irene McInerney of Florida, the late Richard McInerney, William McInerney, Denise McInerney, Alfred "Sonny" Perry, Joan Fumarlo, Denise McInerney, Margaret McInerney and Roberta McInerney. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Jim's Life Celebration on Monday, March 20, 2017 from 3-7 PM and Tuesday, March 21, 2017 from 9-9:30 AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond Street, Walpole on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 10:00 AM.
