I'm grew-up in the 1970's listening to the J Geils Band. Seen them live about 15 times from the Orpheum to the GARDEN and at Great Woods. I alsom went to the special concert for the fallen Worchester Firemen. They are my memories of I take with me to MY GRAVE. R.I.P. Jay" Geils....... see you when I get up there to hear you play with the "HEAVENLY BAND" !

Saw him and band at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto as a teen. I'm sure the Jefferson Starship regretted having them open for them. It was all over when The J. Geils band finished. The stadium half emptied as we were exhausted. A humiliated Grace Slick walked across the front of the stage and gave us all the finger. LOL !!!

i am so sad to hear of your passing. I remember skating to Centerfold when I was in middle school and it was one of those songs that mark that whole MTV 80s era. I have very fond memories of my childhood through that music and you greatly contributed to that. I know that one day I will see you again though and i can't wait. Joh 5:28, 29; 11:25.

i first met J. when we were both in college and he had a jug band that included danny klein, who became his bass guitarist when they formed their famous rock band. I followed his early career and attended one of his early concerts in the late 1960's at the Fillmore East in NYC. I heard about his death on the news last night during a retrospective of people who had died in 2017. Sad. He followed his dream. I recall his comments about his parents not wanting him to drop out of school where he was studying engineering. Glad he had a successful career as a musician.

I am a Live Sound Engineer and I reached out to John in 2007-2008 as I was looking for work. We had only one conversation and he told me that he stopped touring but he was impressed with my resume. One conversation that will leave a lasting memory. J will be missed.

Jay's grandmother and mine were sisters. His dad, Jack, my mom and aunt (Dossie and Flossie Walz) grew up together in the Bronx. When we were kids, my family (Dave and Doris Preis, Nancy and Judy) often visited the Geils family for dinner.
I contacted Jay about 1 1/2 yrs ago to share our family tree and deliver photos I had of his grandmother Minnie, grandfather Henry, and dad.
I was very saddened to hear of his death and hope that if Kristie reads this, she might get in touch. Sincerely, Judy Preis Mielbrecht

So sad! One of the best rock and roll guitar players! Grossly underrated! Went to so many concerts back in the 70's and 80's! Also reunions! Favorite band of all time! Best live concert! Diversity of music! Should of been in Rock Hall of Fame long time ago! Thank you so much for all the great music and memories! You will be sorely missed! Too young!

I am so sorry for the families loss. I feel like Ive lost someone close to me. Every time they toured anywhere near Cleveland-Akron I was there. The last time they were here, they had to add a second show because the first one sold out so fast. So,,I got to see them 2 nights in a row at Blossom Music center. They were the absolute best live band ever. No one could get the people on their feet the way they could. And the sound of the band was always fantastic. I feel bad for all the people that will never get to see a live show by the best live band ever. Gonna miss your chickin Picken.

I still can't believe you're gone Brother. So many years, so many good times. While the World knew you as one of Rock's Greats, you were always just another Car Guy to me. Like Newman and McQueen. I remember the time up at Bruce's Speed Shop in Acton, MA when we were putting together a Racing Kart and John was helping, and all he wanted to do was get it running so he could take it for a spin around the parking lot. I told him we had to bleed the brakes, and he said I don't need brakes, just hook up the throttle. A few years later after I had moved to Atlanta, he wanted to talk Cars, (but didn't have my home address or phone number) so he sent me two tickets to a concert at Chastain Park Amphitheatre. (I had no idea at the time who they came from), until an user came to my seat and asked if I was Mr. Wear. I said yes and she said come with me please. We followed her down to a side door of the stage and a minute later out popped John. He said he wasn't sure if I'd come, but since all he had was my mailing address, he would give it a shot. We talked about old times, that Go-Kart day up in Acton, Vintage Race Cars and all the cool stuff we had seen and all the great Car Guys we knew, and a couple of guys we knew named Tyler and Scholz. I was hoping to look him up again this year and see if he wanted to do some car stuff this year. God Bless you brother, RIP. Dicken Wear
