Shirley Vallot Hoffpauir was called to be with the Lord on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the age of 82. She passed away peacefully at Baylor Garland Hospital in Garland, Texas surrounded by her loving family.

She is preceded in death by her husband of thirteen years, Ronald Hoffpauir, father Joseph Albert Vallot and mother Aimee Pomier Vallot. Sisters Florence Hicks, Mae Pearl Broussard, Verna Brooks, Thelma Jones, Virginia Dell Rudd, and Aimee Durand. Brothers Joseph Vallot Jr. and Mickey Vallot.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law Melody and Tony Thedford of Richardson, Texas. Her son and daughter-in-law Frederick (Rick) and Shonna Rives of Garland, Texas. Her granddaughters Stephanie Godinez and husband Marcus of Sachse, Texas and Brandy Salinas and husband Jason of Wylie, Texas. Her great grandson Caleb Salinas of Wylie, Texas and great granddaughter Bailey Trosper of Sachse, Texas. Brothers Anthony Vallot of Youngsville, Louisiana and Mike Vallot of Layfayette, Louisiana.

Shirley was born on March 11, 1935 to parents Joseph Albert and Aimee Pomier Vallot in Youngsville, Louisiana. She is the seventh child in a family of eleven children She was first introduced to the working world at the age of eight years old when she began helping out in her family’s restaurants and store. She attended Youngsville high school and played on the basketball team. After graduation she worked at a local telephone company as a telephone operator until 1956 when she moved to Dallas and began modeling for a local television station. Also, in 1956 she married Frederick Rives and became a stay at home Mom after her first child, Melody was born in 1957. In 1959, her son Rick was born. Her children were the most important assets in her life and everything revolved around them. Her husband traveled four days a week for work so she often had to overcompensate in her role as mother. She made sure that they participated in a large variety of activities, school events, sports and church. She taught them the good values they possess as adults today. The family attended Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Garland, Texas where she was lovingly known as the “donut lady” because she would spend from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm serving coffee and donuts to the parishioners after each mass. In 1968 she began a career as an executive secretary to the owner of Copeland Shoes and then for Roy E. McDowell Sales. In spite of working full time she was still very present for her children. She enjoyed her beautiful gardens and was known as having the best yard in the neighborhood. She also had a passion for cooking great food which was passed down from a family of great cooks. She volunteered in performing physical therapy on disabled children, campaigned for several mayoral elections, worked on many projects for the Red Cross and the Muscular distropy foundations. She was a member of the school PTA and city council and was block parent in her neighborhood, and always, at least one of her children’s room mother’s each year at their schools. She also enjoyed bowling on the local bowling league, attending Texas Ranger baseball games, and watching the Dallas Cowboys play football.

She moved to Lafayette Louisiana in 1982 after a divorce when her children were young adults and married an old sweetheart Ronald Hoffpauir. She received her RNA certification working in the home health care industry until her return to Dallas in 1989. She was thrilled to be living close to her children and grandchildren once again. She worked as office manager for Red Carpet Realty and eventually went back to doing what she loved most of all helping people in the health care industry.

Shirley possessed a very strong work ethic throughout her entire life and was very passionate about helping others. She was extremely generous with her time often short changing herself. Everyone who met her loved her and valued their relationship with her. It was a huge turning point in her life when at the age of 75 it became too difficult for her to workwhich had a negative impact on her health.

We will always remember this amazingly strong woman for the kind, generous great mother, grandmother, friend and mentor she has always been to us.

Nan, I think of you much and often. Mostly the little nuggets of advice you gave me that I put to good use. You still continue to influence and shape my life. That I will be forever grateful for. My 'Nanny' peony plants are coming up now [late this year], and I cannot wait to relish in the blooms. It's a reminder of what a beautiful and strong woman you are and such a caring soul. You are are wind beneath our wings. Xoxo
I love you forever and always. You will NEVER be forgotten... I will continue to make sure of that.
Love, "Brandy boo boo girl'

Unfortunately my family and I were unable to attend the service for Ricks mom, Shirley, and had not had the opportunity to meet her. We were saddened to hear that she had passed, and we would like to offer our condolences to Rick and Shonna as well as the rest of the family.

Shirley lived down the street from us in the 70's and early 80's.The thing I remember most was all the loving care she received from her Son, Rick. After he moved her into his home she would call me ,but to talk about Rick. She was a very special person and loved deeply by Rick. He will miss her,but will have all the memories of the good times they had.Shirley is in the Arms of the Angels today with Our Precious Lord.

I remember Shirley as someone who was always nice to me when Rick and I were growing up. She cared about her family and others. I am sad to know that her Earthly life is over but know that she is now in Heaven with Jesus and God the Father.
