Francis J. Springer

Francis J. "Fran" Springer age 88, of Mentor, died Tuesday May 23, 2017 at Hospice House in Cleveland surrounded by his family. He was born August 29, 1928 in Ebensburg, PA.

Mr. Springer graduated from St. Francis College in Loretta, Pennsylvania. After graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and Math, he worked for a year in the Petroleum Refining Lab at State College of PA. Then Fran moved to Wickliffe, Ohio to work at The Lubrizol Corporation. He was a Research Chemist at Lubrizol for 39 years. Fran was a veteran of the U.S. Army and proudly served in the Korean War.

Fran was a lifelong learner and had many interests and hobbies. He loved to be outdoors to take long walks, go horseback riding and drive through the Pennsylvania Mountains on his motorcycle. Fran took great pride in his gardens where he grew several varieties of fruits, vegetables, flowers and trees. For several years, Fran was a beekeeper and enjoyed sharing the honey with family and friends. Trolling for walleye in his boat on Lake Erie was another one of his greatest pleasures. He cherished the fellowship of family and friends every year at Crystal Springs Church Camp meeting. Fran was an avid reader of nonfiction material. He loved keeping track of stocks in the Wall Street Journal and learning about the latest topics in the world of science.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years Suellen J. Springer. Children: Jenny Lynn (Gary) Minadeo, Douglas (Maureen Lucas) Springer, Daniel (Karen) Springer and Suzanne (Mark) Braun, grandchildren: Jamie (Tom) Gould, Michael (Jamie) Petti, Maria Petti, Ashley (John Mark) Dorough, Justin Minadeo, Tiffany Springer, Heather Springer, Jeremy (Ashlee) Springer, Kristina, Steven, Danielle, Brandon and Dean Springer, Kayla and Jordan Braun, great-grandchildren: Addison, Genevieve, Clara, Emilia, Elizabeth, Moses, Richard, Savannah, Alexis, Jaiden, Delaney and Savannah, siblings: Robert (Barbara) Springer, Gerard (Shirley) Springer, Jean Springer.

Preceding Fran in death is Infant Daughter, parents: Amandus and Josephine Springer, sister: Louella Mae, brothers: Bill & Adrian Springer. In-laws Edgar and Lillian Salkeld.

A funeral service will be held 4:00 p.m., Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. Rev. David Durkit of Eastlake First United Church of Christ will be officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 4:00 pm Saturday June 3, 2017 at the funeral home.
