A.J. Hill Obituary

A.J. Hill, 26
SOUTH PORTLAND - A.J. Hill, 26, passed away unexpectedly on June 2, 2017, of an apparent drug overdose.
Born in Portland on July 24, 1990, A.J. was the son of Arthur Hill Sr. and Judith Roberts.
He attended South Portland High School before enlisting in the United States Army, where he served as a combat veteran in the 82nd Airborne, in Iraq.
A.J. was a kindhearted and engaging young man who enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He was a simple, easygoing guy, who was proud of his service to his country, and a loving father to his 6-year-old son, Brayden.
He was the typical, happy-go-lucky 26-year-old from New England, who enjoyed Boston sports and spending time with his family and friends.
A.J. fought and ultimately lost his battle to the emotional and physical pain of war and his subsequent addiction. He was a good-hearted kid who carried around a demon. A.J. received tremendous amounts of support from his friends and family, especially his loving mother, Judy. However, once the hooks of addiction set in, there was no amount of love or support that could help him break it.
He was predeceased by his grandfather, William Roberts.
A.J. is survived by his beloved son, Brayden Hill; mother, Judy Hill; brother, Daniel Roberts, and fiancée Elizabeth Lee; beloved grandmother, Patricia Roberts; grandmother Judy Hill, of Scarborough; father, Arthur Hill; former wife, Jessica Tripp; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, June 6, from 4-8 p.m. at the
Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel,
1024 Broadway, South Portland. A funeral service with military honors will be held Wednesday, June 7, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Private burial will be held at a later date. To view A.J.'s memorial page or to share an online condolence, please visit: www.ConroyTullyWalker.com.

In lieu of flowers, if you know of someone battling addiction, please strongly encourage them to seek as much help as humanly possible. The number for the Maine NA hotline is (800) 974-0062.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.

I happened to spend a little time with A.J., when he was younger. One couldn't help but notice his bright presence, sparkling smile, honest face and gosh, he was handsome. Later in life, I heard about his joining the military and admired this choice, proud of his service then and now. Even though I've been someone on the sidelines of his life, I find it so sad that he passed. Blessings to A.J.s family and friends as they grieve and remember.

I did not know you A.J. but I want to thank you for the ultimate sacrifice. You had to see the horrors of war and it took you away. It does not matter that it happened at home. War still took you away. America needs to our soldiers and make them whole again when they come home. We need better services to help these young people. God Bless you.
