Frank Mahoney Obituary

Published by Gately Funeral Home - Melrose on Jul. 22, 2017.
It is with great sadness that the family of Frank E. Mahoney, Jr. announces his passing after a brief illness, on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the age of 58 years. Son of the late Barbara A. and Frank E. Mahoney, Sr., Frank was a long-time resident of Melrose, MA until his recent move to Reading, MA. Frank is survived by his brother Larry and his wife Christine Mahoney, his sister Patricia and her husband Dean Groves, niece Christine Brady, her husband Christopher, and their children Reaghan and Norah, niece Melissa Garfield, her husband Eric, and their children Jake and Molly, and niece Kimberly Talbot, her husband Tim, and their children Liam and Callahan. Frank was a graduate of Malden Catholic High School in Malden, MA, and went on to obtain both a BS degree and an MPA degree from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. He was fortunate to have a long 31-year career at Northeastern University and had an active role in the implementation of the Boston Campus Master Plan improvements and renovations, most recently as Director of Work Management, Design & Construction in the Facilities Division. He received many awards and recognitions for his important contributions to the University, and developed lifelong personal relationships with hundreds of colleagues, vendors, and builders. He was relied upon by many to get the job done. Frank proudly served on the boards of numerous organizations, including: Northeastern University Federal Credit Union Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and Credit Committee; Chaired the Year 2K Task Force for both the Credit Union and Northeastern University's Physical Plant; Malden Catholic High School Board of Trustees and Chairperson, Plant Committee; Melrose Youth Hockey; and Golf Chairman of Bellevue Golf Club. Frank was an Assistant Coach of Northeastern University's Women's Ice Hockey team during the 1980's. He is credited with coaching Ice Hockey, Baseball and Football for many years in the City of Melrose Youth Programs. Youth sports were at the very foundation of his belief to keep young people involved in positive personal development. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, July 26th from Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St. Melrose, MA 02176, (781) 665-1949, www.gatelyfh.com from 4-8pm. With Deepest Sympathy from the Flaman/Fletcher Family

Frank was a ray of sunshine when he walked into a room. He made everyone smile and want to gravitate towards him.
He was a great help to my Dad, Coach Flaman, at NU Hockey and will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

We loved Frank and will think of him often when we think of all the great memories we have of NU Hockey and what an integral part of that special time he was. We will cherish all those memories and miss him greatly.

To The Mahoney Family, We are so so saddended to learn of your loss. Frankie was the best neighbor anyone could have ever wished for. The way he doted on his Mom is something I will always remember about him. He was always so good to my parents as well and I hope all the West Emerson friends who have left us much much too soon will be neighbors once again in Heaven. I know my Mom and Dad will be happy to see him again.

Rest in Peace Frank! You were a great friend!

May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.

Mrs Groves, Mr. Groves, Christine, Missy, and Kim...

April and I are so very sorry to hear about Franco's passing. We hope that you find comfort in this difficult time. He was a such a wonderful person, and I have very fond memories as a kid of him when he would visit Felicia Road - particularly when he was driving one of his cool cars or motorcycles.

Franco was always so pleasant and generous to many in the neighborhood, and I know will be sorely missed by all.

With our very deepest of sympathies,
Michael & April Joyce

Franko,
We had our differences once in a while, but for the many years I have known you, (since you were 12), you proved to be very thoughtful, dedicated and competent with a great attitude.
I am proud to have known you and your family, and I'm so very grateful for your years at Northeastern working not only as our goalie coach, but doing anything that needed doing to help the program. Your contribution in the early years helped launch the Northeastern University Women's Ice Hockey program toward its many successes.
Godspeed.

Frank is going to truly be missed> He was one of the special people who knew exactly what to say to make your day. We were always laughing or joking with one another. We loved to poke fun at one another. We would often call each by random names (instead of our real names), even though we knew each others name. We just had fun calling each other by some off the wall name. He was such a special human being, just an all around great guy, and I for one will miss him so much. My prayers go out to his family. I can not begin to imagine what they must be going through. My heart goes out to them to have to endure such a great loss.

I had the sincere pleasure of working with Frank here at NU over the past 20 years. He was a true gentleman, a straight shooter, and a wonderful person all around to work with. Frank was "family" here at Northeastern and he will be missed by so many people. I will miss his sense of humor in our "plant fund" meetings and all he did to try to help make things function well across all of the various projects on campus. A true friend to NU and especially NU Athletics and to all who met him, we were blessed to know him. God Bless all of his family, I know his spirit will be in our hearts always.

Whenever I think of Frankie, I will always picture him smiling, laughing, and just being the wonderful person he was. I'll remember him fondly.

As time has gone on, we cousins see little of each other. The bond of Love is always there, just the same. Although Frankie's life was cut short, he lived it well and made the world a better place.

I am very sad that he has passed away. I am grateful however that his pain is over.

Deepest sympathies to all the family from me and my husband Lee.

Love,
Karen
