Thomas Scharfenberg Obituary

Published by CLOSED-Madison Chapel Funeral Home Madison, al on Jul. 31, 2017.
Thomas (Tom) Scharfenberg (73) of Madison AL passed away at home on July 31st, 2017. Tom was a dedicated husband and father who leaves behind a lifetime of loving family memories. Tom was born in Davenport, Iowa in 1944 to Edith and Walter Scharfenberg (part of a large family, with 3 brothers and 4 sisters.) Tom married the love of his life, Marilyn (Lynn), in 1964 while he was serving in the National Guard. They soon had two children, Angela and Thomas Junior (Tommy). Throughout his life, Tom cherished leisure time with loving family and friends, whether coaching Tommy's Little League team, seeing the U.S. with his family from their station wagon, or seeing amusement parks with his sister-in-law and his brother-in-law, niece and nephews. In his later years, he loved to spend time with his wife, children and grandchildren, swimming, fishing, playing cards, laughing and trading gruff but good-natured jabs. Tom took pride in many things he did well, such as cooking, gardening, and out-catfishing anyone in his boat. Thomas is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marilyn; two children: Angela Custer of Franklin TN and Thomas Scharfenberg Jr. of Seattle Washington; eight grandchildren, two great grandsons, his sisters Kathy, Robin and Judy and his brother Bill. Tom was preceded in death by his brothers Dan and Mike and sister Walda. A private funeral service for Tom will be held on August 20th, 2017 at ,Madison Chapel Funeral Home located at 8521 Highway 72 W, Madison, Alabama. The funeral will be followed by a reception for family and friends at Tom and Lynn's home in Madison. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tom's name to support.woundedwarriorproject.org/Donate.
