Shula, the ‘winningest’ coach in NFL history, and Bobby’s mentor with the Colts for six years, said, “In addition to Bobby being a great defensive back, he was also my defensive captain, a true coach on the field. Wanda and family,
I met Bobby when we were freshmen in high school. We were friendly enemies on the football field, basketball court, and baseball field. He was great __ on and off the field. I liked him very much and his death diminishes me. I'm most thankful to have known him.
God bless you in your time of sorrow.

I met Bobby in the late 1980s when he was handling the awards ceremonies for the Homer B. Johnson-Garland Alumni Basketball tournament at GHS. I wound up interviewing him for a journalism class project and he was, simply, one of a kind. Hearing the news of his passing did catch me off guard. But I guess God needed him more in Heaven now than here on earth. I offer my condolenses to the entire Boyd family in this time of loss.

One of my heros growing up. Bobby was larger than life, as I followed him through out GHS and beyond. From the observation of a 13 year old Garland schoolboy, he inspired me to work hard and strive to do my best. Thank you, Bobby!
Rest In Peace, my friend.
