William H. Scarpa

William H. " Bill" Scarpa, 93 of Hamden, formerly of Derby died peacefully at the Veterans' Administration Medical Center, West Haven on Wednesday, September 6, 2017. He was the beloved husband of the late Louise A. Cappabianco Scarpa. Bill was born in Derby on March 30, 1924, a son of the late Joseph and Marietta Crocamo Scarpa, and had resided in Derby for most of his life before moving to Hamden seventeen years ago. He owned and operated the former Frank & Bill's Market of Derby for twenty five years until retiring in 1986. Bill was a proud WWII Army Veteran of the European Theatre, and Purple Heart recipient, and a member of the American Legion Post 24 of Derby. He is survived by one daughter, Nancy A. (Kevin) Daly of Centenial, CO, one son, William F. Scarpa of Macon, GA, one sister, Rita Scarpa of Hamden, three grandchildren, Justin Daly, Megan Daly DePoty, and Jennifer Scarpa, and three great grandchildren, Joel, Alexander and Mackenzie DePoty. He was predeceased by two sisters, Florence Perotti, and Gabriele Scarpa, and four brothers, Salvatore, Daniel, Louis and Joseph Scarpa. THERE WILL BE NO CALLING HOURS. Relatives and friends are invited to go directly to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 2819 Whitney Ave., Hamden on Monday for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Military honors will take place immediately after Mass outside the church. Burial will be private.
