Franklin S. "Frank" Cresta, 31, of Wakefield, MA passed away unexpectedly at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, MA on October 14. Born in Melrose on November 2, 1985 to Tina (Fotino) Cresta and Vincenzo Cresta, both of Wakefield. Frank was a legend in his own right, a gentle giant, the unofficial mayor of Wakefield. It was front page news when Frank the Tank graduated Wakefield High School in 2004. He was the best laborer with Barletta Construction out of Canton, MA for the past three years. He was a man of nature and enjoyed "Sunday mass" on various lakes and ponds, fishing for numerous hours and spending time outdoors. He was a celebrity, frequenting many local establishments, but always favoring the Dockside where he spent his time shooting whisky and playing Keno with his closest friends. He had an eye for fashion, wearing the latest in plaid couture, designer Chippewa boots and stylish head coverings. He had a deep love for the first amendment, music, knife collecting and pyrotechnics. His deepest love was for his family and his two dogs, Bruce and Matilda, who were well known throughout Wakefield and beyond. He took his role as Uncle Frankie very seriously, never missing an opportunity to teach his niece and nephews fun stuff. It didn't matter if you knew Frank for a lifetime, a year or a day, his quick wit and sarcastic sense of humor made you fall in love with him. He is survived by his loving mother and father, his brother James Cresta and his fiance Karen Marchessault, sister Samantha (Cresta) Gasbarro and her husband Robert, sister Erica (Cresta) Dugan and her husband Gregory, niece Arianna Cresta and nephews, Ian Padilla, Jared Padilla and Vincenzo Gasbarro, aunts and uncles, Joe and Rita Cresta, Tony and Janet Cresta, Linda and Richard Kinch, Wally and Kathy Fotino, Gary and Pam Goodwin, Bobby and Irene Fotino, Doreen and Jack Sheppard, and Heidi and Brett Rossicone, many cousins, and a tremendous amount of friends. His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 in St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Ave, Wakefield. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 3-7 p.m. Interment, Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.

Frank never liked the fact that me (being a girl) could actually keep up with his professional fishing preformances! So when every fishing season started me and Frank would have a competition on who ever could catch the biggest bass before the season ended.. Each fish caught had to be held up with a picture for evidence.. And so the winner got to make the looser do anything they chose. I was the winner last time, and I told Frank that he was to come down to the dockside wearing his finest dress, some makeup, a wig (that I gave him to borrow) & of course he had to shave his legs to complete the whole look!!! I thought my idea was brilliant but Frank thought otherwise!! Needless to say I guess my idea was maybe a little bit overboard so Frank never followed thru with it.. But I wonder what it would actually look like if Frank did get all DOLLED up!! And then being able to see all his friends faces if he walked into the dockside bar looking like a HOT MESS!! I know that image will stay in my memory forever!! I hope I helped his loved ones smile even if for a minute.. my thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. He was one special man & he was loved by everyone who knew him!!

To the Cresta family,
I am so saddened to hear of Frankie's passing. I've known him since he was a little boy, and always loved his adorable smile and sharp-witted sense of humor. In later years, Frankie was one of my Biology students at WHS, and was so much fun to have in my class! Recently, I'd run into Frankie frequently around town and am really going to miss that happy face and big personality. My heart breaks for all of you, and for his many dear friends.
With deepest sympathy,

We have truly been lucky in life when we meet someone as rare as Frank. He never took him self too seriously, and was always quick to put a smile on your face. My endearing memory of him was when he took over that water polo game in the pool in Mexico Between him and Chris Leahy, they made me laugh harder than I can ever remember. Jim and Tina I can think of no greater loss than losing a child and my heart goes out to you. We will all keep you in our prayers and Frankie's memory alive because every time I smile I will think of him. Rest in peace bigman!!!!

There are no words to make this any easier on you all. My heart breaks for each and every one of you. May god help you and give you the strength to make it through this each and every day. With a heavy heart and love to you all.

I keep hoping this isn't real, but then someone mentions another story referring to Frankie in the past tense and it hits me all over again. Frankie and I went to school together all 12 years. He was a great friend and an absolute pleasure to be around, always. This loss is unfair and unfathomable. Everyone's going to miss you SO much, Frankie.

Sending love and prayers to everyone who knew and loved Frankie.

Frankie,

You were the best person I had ever met. I will cherish the time I had with you and the memories we made. You only get one first love and I thank God you were mine....I got very lucky. Life won't be the same without you, listening to Metallica won't be the same without you, this town won't be the same without, I won't be the same without you. I miss you and I love you.
