John Hugh Grimshaw, 91, of Fort Gratiot, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 5, 2017.
He was born May 6, 1926, in Goble, Oregon, to the late Raymond and Golda Bell Grimshaw. He married the love of his life, Doris Gahl, on July 15, 1945, in San Diego, California. They were married 71 ? years. He was baptized and confirmed at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in San Diego, California, on October 17, 1945. Most recently, he was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Flint.
Mr. Grimshaw was an avid storyteller and loved to tell stories about growing up in the mountains, serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and working as a member of the Sheet Metal Union. Along with storytelling, he also loved jigsaw puzzles, woodworking, Cornhusker football, and combing the beach for shells. His smile and the accompanying twinkle in his eye was known to brighten the mood of everyone around him.
He is survived by two daughters, Kathleen (William) Collins and Lori (Rev. John) Carrier; son-in- law, Thomas J. Bohlen; ten grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nadine Driggs and Enid Clay; a brother, Vern (Marilyn) Grimshaw; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, on November 30, 2016; a daughter, Carol Bohlen; a sister; and three brothers.
Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard at 4:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 11, 2017, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 5073 Daly Blvd, Flint with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. The Rev. Gary Beck, the Rev. Aaron Richert, and the Rev. John Carrier will officiate.
Burial will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, at 1:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Todd Bohlen, Thomas Bohlen, Jason Collins, Jared Collins, Joseph Fanta, and Darin Lloyd.
