Alvin H. Schmidt

Alvin Harry Schmidt was born in Flint, MI on October 25, 1924 to the late John M. and Martha (Fandrei) Schmidt. He passed away with his family by his side on December 22, 2017 Hampton Manor Assisted Living. He married the former Martha Merilyn Brown, on August 23, 1947 and she preceded him in death on January 1, 2010. Prior to his retirement in 1986, Alvin was a professor at Delta College. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the St. Helen Lions Club. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army Air Force. Survivors include his children: Janet (Tim) Johnson, Vicki (Mike) Sutter, David (Berniece) Schmidt, Paul Schmidt and Marianne (Jim) Hitchcock, 12 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Harold Schmidt. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 11 a. m. at Messiah Lutheran Church. The Rev. Andreas Teich will officiate. Private burial will be at Elm Lawn Cemetery. Those considering an expression of sympathy may consider Messiah Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer's Association. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time.
