Ronald D. Nelson "Skip", 78 of Avon Lake for 50 years, formerly of Bay Village passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by family on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Ames Hospice House. Ronald was born on June 9, 1939, and was a 1957 graduate of Bay Village High School. He served in the Ohio National Guard, and he worked as a sales account manager with W.W. Grainger, Independence, retiring after 25 years. Ronald was a member of the American Legion Post 211 and the Oberlin Golf Club. He enjoyed golf, traveling, and was described by family as the "Captain of the ship" due to his interest in the Great Lakes. Ronald is survived by his children, Keith D. Nelson (Kelly A.) of Avon Lake, Kristy L. Schneider (James T.) of Sheffield Lake, and Karrie A. Nelson of Savannah, GA; grandchildren, Tabitha, Spencer, Randall K., and Adam D.; and sister, Barbara Wright (Richard) of Bay Village. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mary (nee Duprow); and his parents, Norman T. and Florence (nee Duncan). The family extends their thanks to Griswold Home Care for their outstanding service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ames Hospice House, 30080 Hospice Way, Westlake, OH 44145.
