WORCESTER-Patrick John McGovern, 15, of 55 Epworth Street died Friday, July 29 as a result of a car accident. Patrick would have entered his junior year at St. Peter Marian Central Catholic High School in the fall. He leaves his parents George P. and Debra D. (Ducharme) McGovern both of Worcester, a sister, Meaghan E. McGovern of Worcester, his paternal grandmother, Marion McGovern wife of the late John J. McGovern, many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Alfred and Margaret Ducharme. He is also survived by Kevin O'Grady, Kevin O'Grady, Jr. and Jillian O'Casio.
Patrick was a wonderful, kind and considerate person to anyone who crossed his short path in life. He had a heart of gold, which emanated to everyone around him. As a son, no parent could ask for more, his love of family, his faith in God, his beautiful smile, his kindness and fun loving personality abounded always. As a brother, he was the best, always concerned about his sister's well being and happiness. He was a good student, well liked by his teachers and classmates. He served as an altar boy at St. George's Church. Over the years, Patrick was involved in the Joe Schwartz Little League and Babe Ruth, Greendale Flag Football League, St. Peter Marian football, basketball and baseball. He also enjoyed playing golf with his dad and friends. When he wasn't playing on a sports team he spent his time at the Greendale YMCA with his friends or at their homes playing ball or hanging out together. Patrick was an avid Red Sox fan, rarely missing a game on television. He also enjoyed playing all sports on his Playstation. He loved to draw since he was four years old, winning many awards for his artwork over the years. Patrick would have turned sixteen on August 25th.
The funeral will be Thursday, August 4 from FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 1 West Boylston Street, West Boylston, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. George's Church, 40 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial is in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, August 3 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Patrick J. McGovern College Scholarship Fund w/ Joe Schwartz Baseball League, 36 Westport Road, Worcester, MA 01605.
