David and I (C. Mainard) in Cape Cod circa 1983

David was my childhood friend and my first husband. He possessed an authentic kindness for those he truly cared about. Even as a kid David had a good heart; he raised a wild bird by feeding it dog food on a popsicle stick, then gave it flying lessons till it was strong enough to fly away. As a child he loved to run in the woods, climb trees, catch snakes, sled and ride bikes.
As adults we had several fun years together before calling it quits. He loved to ride his Harley, camp at the Cape, hunt and fish both salt and fresh water and take his boat out on the lake. He enjoyed eating on the deck in the summer, taking a swim while at the cabin and shooting his bow. He had a snow mobile that he rode around the block on snowy days. We had the best looing lawn in the neighborhood. His go to dinner was mac and cheese with hamburger.
After learning that David had grown grass in the trunk of his Nova, a great idea emerged. David worked very hard after his bike accident in 97 to rehab with the BRS and Gaylord hospital; learning how to run his own business which he named Mac's Landscaping. David fell in love with our dog JD from the day he found him in the pet store in Vernon. I have several special memories that I will keep close to my heart regarding our times together. He was a hard-working good man who provided for his household. I still live in the house we picked out on Phelps Road together 18 years later.
I am grateful to God to have had the opportunity not so long ago to make peace with our disharmony and share a few laughs about the past. I was able to thank him for the good times and for all he did to be a good husband when we were together.
My heart hurt knowing that he will not be here on to enjoy the next awesome sunrise /sunset or the sweet smell of fresh cut grass this spring.
May your soul rest in Peace Dear David.
Till we meat again,
much love
Karen

Dave and I knew each other as kids but became real friends in our 20s. We rode motorcycles together and I visited him a lot at Gaylord after his awful crash. We had tons of good times but I hadn't heard from him in quite a while. He was a very versatile human and could do almost ANYTHING! I will miss him and send sincere condolences to his family.

Dave, your infectious smile, sense of humor and caring is what comes to mind when I think of you. Extremely hard working and passionate about the business you built. I am so sorry to hear this very sad news, my friend. Until next time around...
