Norbert J. Schneider

Norbert J. Schneider, age 90 of Melrose, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, October 1, 2018 at the CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Melrose, Minnesota. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 5 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating, Rev. Vince Lieser concelebrating, and Deacon Ernie Kociemba assisting. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Melrose. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Norbert John Schneider was born April 26, 1928 in Getty Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Joseph and Rosa (Kerkering) Schneider. He was united in marriage to Mary Jane "M.J." Schoenberg on August 29, 1950 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. Norbert started the family farm and enjoyed living a simple and fulfilling life. He loved being a farmer and truly adored his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose and Catholic United Financial. Norbert's favorite pastime was playing cards with his family and friends. Survivors include his children, Mary (Bill) Spanier of Melrose, Deb (Roy) Denne of Avon, Gene (Molly) Schneider of Melrose, Ken (Katy Madden) Schneider of Burtrum, Amy Hiltner of Richmond, Diane (Peter) Gruber of Melrose, Dona (Dana) Buttenhoff of Maple Lake, Ruth (Al) Hoeschen of Apple Valley, Sara (Sam) Uphoff of Elk River, and Eva (Gene) Gruber of Richmond; 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Marcie Lensing of Melrose, Hubert Schneider of Eagan, Alice Ahmannn of Arizona, Clarence "Clancy" (Carol) Schneider of Kentucky, and Ambrose "Amby" (Mona) Schneider of Albany; sister-in-law, Gloria Schneider; and brother-in-law, Melvin Meyer. Norbert was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane "M.J." Schneider on January 16, 2014; parents; infant twin sons; grandsons, Cahil Schneider and Jake Uphoff; son-in-law, Paul Hiltner; brothers, Ed Schneider and Roman Schneider; and sister, Delores Meyer. Serving as casket bearers will be Ryan Spanier, Eric Spanier, Ross Denne, Justin Schneider, Brett Gruber, Drew Hoeschen, and Blake Hoeschen. Cross bearer will be Kelly Minnich and scripture bearer will be Lindsey Schneider. Readers will be Brooke Fenstad and Anna Hoeschen and gift bearers will be Lauren Hoeschen, Samantha Hiltner, and Olivia Gruber. Petitions will be read by Kaitlyn Gruber, Carly Uphoff, Melissa Uphoff, and McKenna Uphoff and the eulogy will be read by Abby Hiltner. Tractor and plow bearer will be Hailey Gruber and picture bearer will be Dana Gruber.
