I knew John from grad school at UMass. He was always so full of energy and enthusiasm. For a while, he used greet people with "Wassup!!!", as in from the Bud Light commercial. I remember him as a very genuine person. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

We're so shocked and so sad that words are of no help in expressing our sorrow at this moment to know about the premature death of John.
We've started to collaborate with John four years ago on machine learning techniques for compilers.
He was a brilliant scientist and he was always a very enthusiastic and nice person.
We'll miss him and he will never be forgotten.
Our sincere condolences to his family.

Speechless I am, my friend. How could this happen? How did we share so much and so little at the same time? You have been a pioneer in the field now known as "ML for Systems", and many of us are following your tracks. I am so honored to have been also working and sharing some of this life with you and your students. Three years ago you stayed at my place and I did not even manage to see you. We only met once since then, very shortly, in London, I am so sad this was the last time. Sincere condoleances to your many relatives and friends.
