Hugh Dickerson Obituary

Published by Eastgate Funeral Home - Garland on Oct. 3, 2019.
Hugh Cox "Bud" Dickerson, Jr., 80, of Garland, Texas, died peacefully at home on Thursday, October 3, 2019. He was born October 15, 1938 in Hodgenville, Kentucky to Hugh Cox and Mary (Bennett) Dickerson. Bud married his soul mate, Judy, on September 19, 1975 and together they raised six children. In 1977 they moved their family from Detroit, Michigan to the home they shared in Garland, Texas. Bud was a loving, devoted husband, and when his wife passed away a few weeks before him, he was lost without her. Though we will all miss him dearly, we know that he is reunited with his true love. Bud was a loving daddy, grandpa, and great-grandpa who enjoyed spending time with his family, most especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed building and flying remote control airplanes, playing poker, working with his hands, and he could fix anything. Bud enjoyed woodworking and building things. He loved riding his motorcycle for many years, and enjoyed classic cars. Most of all, he was always there for his family, no matter the circumstances. Bud graduated from St. Benedict High School in Michigan and then spent eight years as a reservist with the United States Army. Bud worked at B.F. Goodrich in Detroit for seventeen years, where he was an Assistant Manager in the retreading plant. After he moved to Texas he worked at Goodyear for three years, then Bud spent several years at Specialty Design building custom shutters. Bud retired from General Dynamics, where he had worked as a machinist for 25 years. Bud is survived by his daughter Dianne and husband Jim Kolb; son Robert Wenner; son Hugh Dickerson, III and wife Julia; daughter Lori and husband John Butler; daughter Michelle and husband George Torres; daughter Julie and husband Raymond Brown; grandchildren Lea, Christopher, Jennifer, Kevin, Jimmy, Rhiannon, Kelsie, Zack, Adrienna, Riley, Alyssa, Abby, and Lily; great-grandchildren Theresa, Lucas, Gage, Alexia, Cayden, Greyson, Ada, Russell, and Layla; sister Jeannette Cole, brother Glenn Dickerson, sister Jane Wright, brother Billy Dickerson, and sister Rozelle Williams. Bud is preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Dickerson; mother, Mary Dickerson; father, Hugh Dickerson; sister, Margaret Day; sister, Joe Anne Monet; brother, Lonnie Dickerson; and his beloved wife, Judy Dickerson. A memorial will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Garland, where he was a member and volunteer, on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 12:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Buddy's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or to the charity of your choice.
