Mary Gulino Obituary

Published by Gately Funeral Home - Melrose on Mar. 23, 2020.
Mary J. Gulino, at 92 years of age passed away in the quiet hours of Monday morning, March 23, 2020. She was born October 21, 1927 in Boston, MA to the late Josephine (Carpiniello) and Michael Fasano. Mary along with her two siblings, Gerry and Dora were raised in East Boston and Mary graduated from the Girls High School of Boston, MA in 1944. Following her high school graduation, Mary worked at the Sears Roebuck in Boston doing administrative work. She met her husband Salvatore (Sonny) Gulino and they married in 1955. Mary and Sonny lived in Medford with their three children, Lynne, Joseph, and Gene before moving to Melrose where they raised their children. As a family they spent summers making memories in Lunenburg on the lake, and later in Magnolia at the beach. Mary was employed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) during the 1980s and 1990s where she was Assistant Director in the Office of Campaign Systems. In her role at MIT, Mary was influential to the success of teaching competence in the then newest computer systems such as the Macintosh. Her success and expertise even earned her the department nickname of "Chief Macintosh Trainer." Mary was widowed by the passing of Sonny after 41 years of marriage and she maintained her dedication to the love of her life for the rest of her days. Mary enjoyed spending her winters down in Pompano Beach, Fl where she made numerous lifelong friends. She enjoyed golfing, sitting out by the pool and watching the boats pass along the intracoastal, going out for dinner, and most importantly, having everyone over for a cup of coffee. Her condo was considered the "Dunkin Donuts" of the complex. Mary loved to entertain with her specialty homemade lasagna or eggplant parm, and regularly hosted her friends and family wherever she was. She extended this to her beach house in Magnolia where she created a tradition of hosting family parties every summer. A family tradition that will continue in her honor. Mary was predeceased by her parents, brother Gerry, and husband Sonny. She was a loving sister to Dora who survives her. She is survived by her three children Lynne Thomas and her husband Michael, Joseph Gulino and his wife Cathy, and Gene Gulino. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren Kurt Thomas and partner Paige, Justin Thomas, and Michael Thomas, Mary and Grace Gulino, and Matthew Gulino and his wife Alejandra, Erica Gulino and her fiancé Justin, and by her one great-grandchild, Enzo Montgomery Ouimet. Due to the current advisory placed in the State of Massachusetts, the funeral will be private. There will be a memorial mass for Mary held at a later date that will be scheduled and announced once the advisory is lifted. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mary's honor can be made to The Paley Foundation. Dr. Paley is a doctor that has dedicated his career to improving the lives of children through limb correction surgery and advanced medical technologies. Mary's grandchild, Grace, was one of the many children that has benefitted from Dr. Paley's expertise and Grace's quality of life was greatly improved by it. Mary always considered his work for Grace a miracle. Website: https://www.unlimbited.org/ Mailing Address: PO Box 751, Jupiter Florida, 33468.
