Merrill D. Witmer, 97, of Newtown, PA, died at his home on Monday April 20, 2020. Born in Upper Paxton Twp., PA, Merrill was a resident of Upper Makefield Twp. for over 50 years. Merrill is a Veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII and a graduate of Penn State Univ. with a degree in Engineering. He was an instructor at Mercer Co. Community College. Merrill is the husband of 74 years to the late Charlotte Lyle Witmer and the father of their children; Bonnie C. Stauffer (Mark), John H. Witmer (Paula), and William D. Witmer (Joan) as well as six grandchildren; Aimee, Matthew, Lauren, Hannah, Heather, Joshua and three great-grandchildren; Caydon, Kylee, and Roy. Private services and interment will be held at Washington Crossing National Cemetery at the convenience of the family. A public memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced. Memorial contributions in Merrill's name may be made to the Guardians of the National Cemetery, P.O. Box 233, Newtown, PA 18940. www.swartzgivnish.com/obituaries
