Marilyn Ann Mars, 88, of Lakewood, Ohio, passed away Monday, June 8, 2020, in the presence of her family members. She was born to the late Shekib and Annie Rassie, September 18, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY. Marilyn graduated from St. Augustine's High School in 1949, and earned a B.A. in business education from Ohio University in 1954. She taught in the business department at Brooklyn High School, in Cleveland, and after that was a substitute teacher at Lakewood High School. She embraced the community of Lakewood and all that it had to offer, living her life there. Marilyn is survived by four children: Matt (Maria) Mars, of Rocky River, Melissa Eisel, of Lakewood, Chris (Elizabeth) Mars, of Denver, and Megan (Michael) Richards, of Fairview Park. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings Robert Rassie, Jackie Discenza, Catherine Rassie, and Joanne Rassie. Marilyn had boundless energy and a pioneering spirit, learning to ski in the 1950s, as well as traveling to Europe and even buying an MG sports car, during the same era. She was an avid tennis player, skier, swimmer, and bridge player, and possessed a witty sense of humor. She was also a food enthusiast and she could often be spotted at a local restaurant, a food tasting, her favorite restaurant (Chez Francois), or even picking berries out in the country. She had a love for theater and enjoyed volunteering as an usher for Playhouse Square and organizing yearly trips to NYC with lady friends for a weekend filled with Broadway. During her retirement years she traveled the world extensively, whether it be with her sisters or friends and always looked forward to her next trip. She passed on her joie de vivre to her children and grandchildren, whether it was swimming at the pool, taking them skiing, or traveling. Marilyn truly lived life to the fullest and was always ready for another "adventure." The viewing ceremony will be held on Monday, June 15, 2020 at Busch Funeral Home, 21369 Center Ridge Road, Fairview Park from 3pm-7pm. 440-333-9774 www.buschcares.com

So sad to hear the news. We had so many wonderful memories--trips to NYC, LHS luncheon reunions, ushering at Playhouse Square, summer visits to the Islands, and many visits just to chat. I considered her a great friend and she had a special place in my heart.

To all my relatives, those I do know and those I do not know, my sincere sympathy for the loss of your loved one, my first cousin. Marilyn was the leader of the pack - setting a wonderful example of a Mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, great aunt, friend. Seems that nothing slowed her down. I know she will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. God bless the Rassie clan! Love and prayers. Georgia from Mississippi.

Reading this tribute reminds me of meeting Marilyn when she and her sisters were staying in NY at the Salisbury Hotel on 57th. They were there for fun and Broadway, and what a time they all had! She was so outgoing, lots of fun and a terrific sense of humor; she could hold the room with her wit and enthusiasm. I liked her immediately and was glad I got to see her several times after that. She was the epitome of the Rassie energy and great spirit. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Please know that my thoughts are with you all during this sad time. Love, Gwynn June12, 2020

What a beautiful tribute to your mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, mother-in-law, cousin, teacher, and everything else she was to so many! It's such a great picture of her. That's how I will always remember her--my sweet, vivacious cousin. I like to think she and I had a special relationship. My mother had a special one with her, too. They were kindred spirits, I believe. She will be so missed and I'm so glad for the many visits we had with each other all during the years. Marilyn, may you Rest in Peace.

Dear Jackie and Rassie Family,
Buster and I are so sorry for your troubles. Something about losing a sibling that just seems wrong, but what a great sister you are and a grand family you have! Keep her stories alive for the young ones and they will keep her spirit alive! Know you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Safe home Marilyn, safe home.
Love to you all,
-eileen
