Rose S. Schuster Obituary

Published by D'Anjolell Memorial Home of Broomall on Dec. 8, 2020.
SCHUSTER Rose S. (nee Spadafora), age 90, on Dec. 8, 2020 of Newtown Square, PA formerly of Drexel Hill, PA. Predeceased by her husband Andrew M. Schuster; her 3 brothers Francesco, Joseph, and Nicholas, also her 3 sisters, Antoinette, Anna, and Teresa Survived by her children Andrew M. (Engracia), Stephen J. M.D.(Barbara), Kenneth R. (Tamara) and Lisa K. (Russell Vossen) Schuster, 10 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren Kaylee and Aveline; her brother Anthony and her sister Concetta. Rose S. Schuster, née Spadafora, was born at home in South Philadelphia on September 19th, 1930, one year after her parents, Antonio and Maria Spadafora, arrived in Philadelphia from Calabria, Italy. She was the first of the Spadafora family to be born in the United States. Rose was affectionately known as "Dolly" by family and close friends. While this appellation reflected, in part, her petite stature and in another part, her birth order as the youngest daughter of nine children, those closest to Rose primarily called her Dolly as an expression of its synonyms – darling, dear, beloved, special, and sweet. Dolly was a true renaissance woman who was bright and ahead of her era. She was accepted at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy with a scholarship, although she ultimately could not attend college due to family circumstances. After World War II, she took a job with the US Army Signal Corp where she met the love of her life, Andy Schuster, a procurement officer at the same firm. Dolly and Andy married in 1950 and had four children, Andrew, Stephen, Kenneth and Lisa. Dolly was the family's pillar. She spent her life as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her love for her family was unconditional. She nurtured each of her children and allowed them to develop into, in her own words, "four only children." In essence, Dolly gave each of her children the freedom and unconditional support to pursue their own hopes and dreams. Her love extended to family and friends around the world. Always curious and concerned about others and the world at large, she easily learned new technologies, and stayed in touch with loved ones via Facebook and iPhone, much to her grandchildren's (and her children's) amazement. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, shopping, antiquing, and most of all family gatherings. There is now a Rose in heaven where she is finally united with her beloved husband, Andy. She is much loved here and is sorely missed by many, especially by her four children, their spouses, ten grandchildren and two great-granddaughters, who ask for your prayers at this time. Although our hearts were broken when the angels took her away, we share our Rose, our flower, with all in heaven to enjoy and hope in time to meet her there. Relatives and Friends are invited to her Viewing Wed. Dec. 16th 9:00 – 9:45 A.M. followed by her Funeral Mass 10:00 A.M. ALL IN CHURCH at St. Dorothy's Church 4910 Township Line Rd. (Twp. Line & Burmont) Drexel Hill, PA 19026. Interment S. S. Peter & Paul Cemetery. "In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rose's name to the Abramson Cancer Center, c/o Katie Dewees Detzel, 3535 Market Street, Suite 750, Phila. PA 19104 or at www.penncancer.org" Live Stream via https://www.pscp.tv/danjolellmemor

Dear Schuster Family, It is with great sadness that I learned about your mother's passing. Such a lovely lady! I met your mom through a mutual friend, Vinnie Palermo, several years ago. Our visits together were always filled with warmth and lots of wonderful conversation-she always spoke of her beautiful family with tremendous love and pride! I feel as if I am a better person for having known your mom! Sending prayers for peace and comfort

Hi Rose, aka Rosie Posie. Although you were in my life for only a short while, you captured my heart and left me with MANY fond memories. Caring for you was one of the most rewarding experiences I have had in my life.
Knowing your passion for cleaning, I wanted to let you know that your Condo is SPOTLESS!
My heart is happy knowing you are at peace in Heaven with your husband and other loved ones (and my Mom).
Love always, Annie
