I just learned of Dierdre's passing in the UVA magazine. I went to college with her and have so many fond memories of her laughter and friendliness to everyone she met at UVA. So sorry to all that have lost so much.

My heart is breaking over the devastating loss of a dear friend. I worked with Deidre at UCSF when I was a post-doc and she was our amazing research assistant. So many long work days were made that much more enjoyable with Deirdre's wit, brilliance and laughter. She was a kind, genuine, gracious and wonderful person and became a close friend to me and my family. We will miss her greatly. Our deepest sympathies to Mary, Bill, Andrew and Meghan and the extended family. We are so sorry for your loss. We are thinking of you all during this incredibly difficult time.

Deirdre accomplished much in her short life. Her scientific research will be a lasting legacy. She was a beautiful person, inside and outside. She had a good sense of humor (an Irish trait), an enduring smile, and a comfortable demeanor. Deirdre was not only very intelligent, but she was a good athlete and we can't help but remember watching her swim competitively. Our lives were better because we had the opportunity to know her. We know God has his arms around her.
With Love, Sheila and George Tichy

I work as the faculty recruitment coordinator for the Center for Cancer Research and interacted with Deirdre when she was interviewing and negotiating her tenure track position with us. I only knew her through limited email exchanges, but found her to be lovely, caring, and very excited to open her laboratory and begin the next chapter in her life. Despite never having met her in person, the news of her death gutted me. I already felt that she was part of our CCR family.
Please accept my deepest sympathy. My heart goes out to your entire family.
