I met Brian often during my times with him at Trimble. He is a person that I won't forget in my life and it was a shock to hear the message. I will light a candle for you and continue to have your positive spirit in me!

To the Sykes family, I want to firstly say I am sorry for your loss. Brian was a great conversationalist. I don't think there were any quick or rushed conversations, with Brian. Brian had the time to talk about whatever the given topic was. Working with Brian, i will share that he was very knowledgeable about the space he worked within, he had a deep and energized understanding of what he was working on. I am sure you all know this already. I would like to share that you should also know that Brian was all about his family. I think every conversation or interaction there was discussion about family, activities, achievement or something upcoming. He spoke highly of all of you. Brian was a positive to talk to or to learn from.
Sorry for your loss.

Sykes Family,
It was very tragic hearing of Brian’s passing. I am deeply sorry for your loss. I have so many memories of spending time with all of you. I have known Brian for close to 30 years. I still remember when you moved to Ankeny. Justin and I were on the same football team, I thought your name was pronounced “Skyies”, and Brian started his dominance of Ankeny sports. I think he was the first person I saw dunk a basketball in a high school game. Playing at Iowa State then heading to California in a RV with Donnie and coming back looking like Hulk Hogan. Then our work life started together in May 2006. I remember thinking why are we were hiring an English major for a technology job, but he also had the nerdy programming side as well. I pulled up Brian’s work review from 2007 and under Cooperation it stated, “Brian is very willing to help others and put in the extra time to help customers. He is very eager to help his fellow employees and support his customers. He is also increasing his relationships with customers throughout the state, as well as other Trimble dealers and personnel”. I think this sums up Brian very well. Nicest guy in the world that would help anyone. I miss the Thanksgivings we used to share together, Ziegler Christmas parties and hearing about the boys growing up. Ran into Brian a few years ago at the airport and could not believe that Jake was picking him up. Much love to all of you. His memories will be with us forever.

I am truly sorry and deeply saddened to hear of Brian’s passing. I worked with Brian closely for several months when he first came to work for Topcon. Brian was extremely kind and was very proud of his family. We discussed our love of football and he always spoke of his joy of teaching football and all the life skills it had for to offer. He was a great man. God Bless.

Gina and boys,
I am writing a note of sympathy at the news of Brian's passing. I remember him as always friendly and smiling. We all had many positive interactions during the years the boys were in school and it was always good to see Brian (and Gina) at school. We also had the pleasure of seeing each other when I was visiting at Larry and Mary's house. God bless everyone....Brian will be remembered always.

Jim, I am so very sorry for your loss. Words in no way can make sense out of this tragedy. 1Cor 12:9. God's grace is sufficient and his power is made perfect in our weakness. Please know that your work family hurts for you and your family. There is nothing we wouldn't do to help you. May God bless you now and always.

Gina and the boys,
We were so sad to hear the news of Brian's passing. We have so many great memories of the old neighborhood and our biggest loss from moving was all of the great neighbors we had including your family. Our kids loved biking down your cul-de-sac, there was always so much activity in the area. I want to leave you with one memory that makes me smile about Brian - Do you remember his old red Chevy pickup? Do you remember that for a while he kept a female mannequin in the passenger seat? Made me laugh every time I saw it.
Brian was such an interesting guy - whenever we saw each other at a school event or whatever he always took the time to say hello and catch up a little bit.
Your family will be in our prayers, we are just down the road if you need anything.
