Adair Morey McKoy III woke up in Heaven in the arms of his beloved Jesus on Sunday March 21, 2021. Adair was born in Wilmington NC on October 1, 1941, the eldest son of the late Adair Morey McKoy, Jr. and Priscilla Grainger McKoy. He graduated from Edmunds High School in Sumter, SC and attended Clemson University. Shortly after he served in the U.S. Marine Corps (Where everyday is a holiday and no job is ever a chore! He loved it!) He married the love of his life Boone Jenkins and moved to Wadmalaw Island where he was introduced to the low country. After working at Bears Bluff Marine Lab on Wadmalaw Island and for Gilbert Maggioni, in the oyster business out of Beaufort, SC, he knew all the creeks and rivers up and down the coast like the back of his hand! He then began his farming career. Farming was one of his true passions and spent nearly the next 60 years working the soil and growing grains and vegetables, especially tomatoes. Adair was an active member of St. Johns Parish Church, serving as senior warden and on vestry. He was very active in the Cursillo and Kairos Ministries. He served as president of the SC Tomato Association. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Boone Jenkins McKoy and his four children: Katie McKoy Stachelek (Rich), Adair Morey McKoy IV (Missy), Helen McKoy Russell (Whitt), and Betsy McKoy Johnsman (Greg); his seven grandchildren: Jeanie Stachelek Moore (Matt), Micah Stachelek (Liz), Caroline Russell, Whit Russell, Graydon McKoy, Victor Johnsman and Moses Johnsman; two great-grandchildren, Adair Moore and Josie Moore; one brother, Victor Grainger McKoy (Floride) of Stateburg, SC. He was preceded in death by his, brother Dr. Peter Brice McKoy (Peggy) of Camden, SC. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to St. Johns Parish Church, 3673 Maybank Highway, Johns Island, SC 29455. Adair truly loved the Lord and was always eager to witness and share the love of Jesus to others. He had a way with people and plants. "He who plants the seed beneath the sod and waits for it to raise the clod, he trusts in God!" Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, Charleston, SC 29414.

My dear Adair,
My Danny has joined you since I last wrote to you.
I am remembering how much you enjoyed each other's company whenever we came to Edisto.
Most of my childhood memories at Arcadia revolve around the times you and Pete and Grainger came for the summer. You are one the the kindest and fairest people I've ever known.
I love you,
Vicki

Always Faithful. That is our God. Adair was a great soldier and faithful saint. He was a sower of the Word, and now has entered into his reward. Well done, faithful servant : enter into the joy of your Lord. We are here and sorrow but do not grieve as those who have no hope. May God bring strength and comfort to all family and friends. I know my Redeemer lives !

Mr. Adair was one of the first SC tomato growers I ever met. I enjoyed hearing the history of the land and spending time with, undoubtedly, one of the nicest people I ever met. My sincerest condolences to the family.

Another Marine

March 26, 2021

Whenever I become aware that another Marine has answered his last muster, I am reminded by words in our Marines' Hymn that tells us, the streets of Heaven are guarded by United States Marines. Stack arms and rest your pack, Marine, and then take your post. You still have important work to do. Semper Fi, and carry on.

Please accept my deepest sympathy on Adair's passing. He was one of the first tomato growers I met 30 years ago, and certainly the kindest one I have known. May God comfort you at this difficult time.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have such fond memories of Mr. McKoy (one that sticks out: he took Betsy and I to breakfast at McDonald's before church one Sunday. I don't remember our ages but we were young enough to think this was VERY exciting!) He will be greatly missed. Lots of love to the whole family!
