Patricia Rebar Obituary

Published by Boyd-Horrox-Givnish Funeral Home on Apr. 23, 2021.
Patricia Alma Rebar, age 84, of Lower Providence, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2021. Born March 10, 1937 in Norristown, she was the daughter of the late Alma Mager and the late Andrew Mager and the beloved wife of the late Michael Joseph Rebar, Sr. She grew up on Haws Avenue in Norristown where she attended St. Francis of Assisi grade school. She then graduated from West Catholic High School in Philadelphia. In her early years, she was an avid water skier and served as the first woman to head the Port Indian Regatta. Pat is survived by her son; Michael Joseph Rebar, Jr., her daughter-in-law Cathleen Kelly Rebar, and one grandson, Michael Joseph Rebar, III. She was a beloved aunt to Andrew Gillespie (Sally); Michael Gillespie (Marge); Paul Gillespie (Colleen); Bonnie Gillespie DiCicco (Joe); Greg Gillespie (Meg) and to three other nieces and nephews who preceded her in death: Kathy Gillespie; Lori Mager and Peter Mager. Pat was also preceded in death by her loving sister Anne Mager Gillespie and her brother Peter Mager (Lorretta). She is also survived by her devoted cousin Diane Kreiger (Walter) and many other cousins and second cousins. Pat spent her life as a devoted mother, friend, aunt, sister, cousin and member of the Visitation BVM Catholic Church. After graduation from West Catholic High School Pat took a position as a recruiter with Bell Telephone. Thereafter, Pat served Visitation BVM Catholic Church as an administrative assistant to Monsignors Larkin, Clemens and Murray for 35 years. She was also an active member of the Women's Guild at Visitation for over three decades. During that time, Pat was also an assistant nursery school teacher at Visitation BVM where she was adored by the many generations of Visitation BVM students who came through the school. She embraced the message of God and his teachings through the love she showed to her family and friends. Pat was most happy when around people, sharing laughs and stories. She was the life of the party. She embraced her role as a matriarch and provided a listening ear, support, and an open heart to so many in her Visitation BVM family. Everyone who knew Pat knows that the world will be a different place without her. Relatives and friends are invited to Pat's Life Celebration at Visitation BVM Church from 10-10:50 AM followed by her funeral mass on Friday, April 30, 2021 beginning at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family are welcome subject to the applicable COVID-19 restrictions in place; interment to follow at St. Patrick Cemetery. Shared a few hours and one dinner with Pat 6 or 7 years ago...It was at a time of personal pain and suffering for me and my family and Pat's kindness and understanding made it just a little easier to endure. Thousands of people pass through in one's lifetime but only a few leave an indelible mark..Pat, for me, is one of those special persons..
