Dwight "Deke" Rhodes, departed this life on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at the age of 67. He was born on January 21, 1954, to the late Jules Rhodes, Sr. and Henrietta Scott Rhodes. Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, Jules Rhodes, Sr. and Henrietta Scott Rhodes; siblings, Clarence Lenaris, Jr., Juliette Rhodes Early, Jules Rhodes, Jr., and Pamela Rhodes Johnson. Deke was baptized on November 24,1965, by Rev. Dave A. Dennis at Third Missionary Baptist Church in St. Bernard, Louisiana. He was educated in the New Orleans Public School System and a graduate of the George Washington Carver Class of 1975. He was a retired Glazier with the DeGeorge Glass Company, Inc., and various other glass companies. He was a member of the International Painters and Allied Trades Local #1244, District Council 80. Deke is survived by his children, Jamahal Dwight Rhodes and Demerial Marie Rhodes Banks; son-in-law, Dale Banks, Jr.; grandchildren, Janeisha Muse, Joy Trapangier, Dillon Banks, and Dakota Banks; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Naomi R. Hoffman and Valerie R. Nixon; brother-in-law, Junius Nixon, Jr.; godchild, Jules Rhodes III, a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Special thanks to Kevin Johnson for all of his support.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service at Third Missionary Baptist Church, 206 Armstrong Lane, St. Bernard, LA on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 10:00 am. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am. Attendees are required to comply with applicable Covid 19 mask and social distancing mandates. Interment: First Baptist Church of Verettville Cemetery, 3737 Bayou Road, St. Bernard, LA 70085. Arrangements by D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70125.
