Elizabeth Vandenburg Obituary

Published by John F Givnish Funeral Home - Academy Rd on Feb. 17, 2022.
Vandenburg- Elizabeth (Betty) nee Lawler died on Thursday February 17, 2022 at the age of 94. Betty was born July 10, 1927 to Mary (Spencer) and Joseph Lawler in Philadelphia. Betty was the oldest of 4 children and grew up in Germantown. Betty loved going to the theater with her grandmother which sparked a lifelong appreciation of movies and all things dramatic. She graduated from Little Flower High School before marrying her high school sweetheart, Jack on April 7, 1947. Jack and Betty raised their seven children in the Lawndale section of Philadelphia; though she often quipped the kids would send her to the Byberry Psychiatric Hospital, Betty somehow managed. She and Jack retired to North Cape May, NJ, where their home became a base for their family to spend summer vacations amidst the melodies of Lawrence Welk and perhaps a few too many musical wall clocks. She lived her final years at Gloria Dei Farms in Hatboro, Pa. tending bar during happy hour to get her drinks for free (only sometimes - it was a lot of work!!), managing circulation for the Glory Bee monthly newsletter, and maintaining perfectly - HER apartment. Betty loved reading, slot machines, live musicals, walking, spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, annual trips to Woodloch Lodge, and telling people to yell louder into her good ear. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack and siblings Sonny and Marlene. Betty was the loving mother of John Jr. (the late Lucille), Gregory (Patricia), Elizabeth Bustard (the late Robert), David (Barbara), Steven (Michele), Jacquelyn Frasca (Gerald), Mark (Susan). Also survived by her sister Sr. Mary Faith, IHM 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed. L'chaim. Family and friends are invited to share Betty's Life Celebration Tuesday between 7 & 9 PM at the John F. Givnish of Academy Rd. 10975 Academy Rd. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday 10 AM in Immaculate Conception Church 604 West Ave. Jenkintown, Pa. 19046. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Betty's memory to Camilla Hall N.H. at IHM Mission Advancement Office 230 IHM Drive Malvern, Pa. 19355 would be appreciated. www.lifecelebration.com
