Robert J. Montague, Jr. Obituary

Published by John F Givnish Funeral Home - Academy Rd on Mar. 18, 2022.
Robert J. Montague Jr., passed away on March 18, 2022. He was 70-years-old. Bob was born in Philadelphia to the late Robert J. Montague and Agnes (nee McGuigan). He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Kathleen (nee Fenningham); loving children, Robert J. Montague, III (Emily) and Shannon Montague; grandchildren, Robert and William Montague; siblings, Nancy Corley, Mary McVey (Daniel), Joanne Newman (Edward), and Theresa McCann (Roy); sister-in-law Lorraine Michell and many loving nieces and nephews. Bob was born and raised in the Juniata Park section of Philadelphia, attended Holy Innocents Catholic Elementary School and was a 1970 graduate of North Catholic High School. He entered the Philadelphia Police Academy in March of 1972, proudly retiring with the rank of Lieutenant after 29 years of loyal service. Bob continued his career in law enforcement as a Special Agent for the PA Office of the Attorney General for an additional 15 years until finally retiring in 2015. Even as Bob neared the end of his time here on earth, he still spoke fondly of his life – filled with stories of his childhood, his career in law enforcement, memories of his beloved Piccoli Spartans football team and his boxing days. Bob was a lover of the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing; no matter if it was at home, his days at the campgrounds in Jersey, down the Jersey shore, or at his home up the mountains, he was always the "master of ceremonies" when surrounded by family and friends. It can be easily said that anyone who crossed his path, whether for a long time or only a brief moment, gained a happy memory along with a smile because of "Big Bob". Relatives and friends are invited to share in Bob's Life Celebration on Friday, March 25, 2022 from 10AM-1PM at John F. Givnish Life Celebration Home, 10975 Academy Rd., Philadelphia, PA 19154. A memorial service will begin at 1PM followed by Philadelphia Police Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bob's memory may be sent to the FOP Survivors Fund. I first met Bob when I was a young man at the Harrowgate boxing club! He was one tough guy! But you would never know it he was by far one of the nicest guys I've ever met! I remember when I turned pro Bob was working for Philly PD as a police officer! He would do four or five rounds sparing with me
then have me drop him off at work another eight hours! Any of us that have worked for the PD can tell you that is no easy feat! Years later when I got on the job he was a Lt and I was assigned to the 26th he made a point of coming to see me to welcome me on the job! He would check up me from time to time! One of the biggest honors I've had as a cop was when his daughter got on the job and he called me and asked me to keep an eye out for her! But she needed no watching she was trained by the best Lt Bobby Montague a giant of a man inside and out! There are very few people I respected as much as him!

Bob Montague was always there for you with a smile. A gentleman and great law enforcement officer are just a few words that describe Agent Montague. He was one of the few people that made working at the OAG like at second home. May he rest in peace.
