Michelle Lauren Frederick

Michelle Lauren Frederick, formerly of Drexel Hill, PA, passed away on April 22, 2022. Michelle was a graduate of Upper Darby High School, enrolled in Drexel University to study interior design, then transferred to New York University. Michelle graduated NYU Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Studio Art. Beloved daughter of Nicholas and Rosemarie (nee Montalto), survived by her brothers Nick, Craig (Arlette), Dennis, Jeffrey (Alicia) also survived by her nieces and nephews, Ciara, Dylan, Caden, Nora. Michelle is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. After graduation she sought a position with the US government to assist in the restoration of Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina. Michelle, being proficient in Spanish, worked with the Latino community. She remained in Mississippi working with an architect who helped to design and re-build some of the historic structures that were destroyed or damaged during Katrina. Upon her return to Drexel Hill, Michelle decided to attend "Metafora Talleres de Arte", a studio art school in Barcelona, Spain. After completing the Metafora program, Michelle lived in Spain and attained a position as a gallery assistant at the "Villa del Arte Galleries", an art gallery in Barcelona. While living in Europe, her work took her to many countries throughout Europe and the Far East. She traveled extensively for five years promoting the work of numerous artists and sculptors, while also designing, creating and selling her own works. Upon her return to the US, Michelle continued to promote for the "Villa del Arte Galleries" but decided she needed to move on to her next passion, her love of plants and flowers. This love of nature took her to The Barnes Foundation, which offered a course in Horticulture. During this period she took a position in a downtown florist shop and in 2017 was awarded the Philadelphia Flower Show grand prize for store front window display. It was due to her love of nature that she decided to pursue her dream to design furniture. She envisioned the beauty of nature being displayed as part of the structure of her creations. So blossomed her dream to design and create furniture through wood working. She enrolled in "The Philadelphia Furniture Workshop" and became a member of NetFab, a member based community woodworking shop in Philadelphia. Michelle realized to better execute her wish to work with wood she needed to attend a program that would enable her to understand the medium, while learning the techniques necessary to create unique pieces. Michelle researched woodworking schools and finally chose "The Krenov School", a school based in Fort Bragg, CA After completing a year at The Krenov School, Michelle joined the "Cypress Street Barn", a woodworking shop located in Fort Bragg. Michelle created her "own" unique designs while being commissioned to create numerous pieces for others. Michelle stayed connected to The Krenov School through her membership on The Krenov Foundation Board. Michelle was fully involved in the Fort Bragg community and hosted a radio show, along with her co-host Phoenix Trent, titled "Putting Down Roots", a show on KZYX Radio, designed to promote individuals active in the artistic Mendocino community. Donations are welcome to help offset the financial cost of a surgical leg procedure that her beloved pup Sophie requires.
