Walter F. Schmidt Jr.

Walter F. Schmidt, age 72, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2022. Walter was born September 3, 1949 in Kalamazoo. He was a great man that enjoyed golf, fishing and the casino. He worked for General Motors in Kalamazoo and surrounding areas. He was always there for anyone that needed a hand with whatever needed. He loved visiting and reminiscing with friends and family also. Walter is survived by his brother, Henry (Amy) Schmidt and their sons, Jess and Jonah; his daughter Christiane (Dave) Rumsey; grandsons Dominic (Amber) Schmidt-Brown and their kids, Marco, Brooklyn, London, and Dominic Jr, Anthony (Britani) Schmidt-Brown and their furbabies, Jacob Schmidt-Brown and his son Leo, Rachael Rumsey and her son Nash, Kirsten Rumsey; step-son Matt Decker and his family. He was like a father to Terry Martz, Timmy Lamb and Michael (Tonya) Hayes and he was like a grandfather to Michael Hayes jr. He is preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice Schmidt, father, Walter Schmidt and sister, Beatrice Lamb. Walter's family will be receiving guests at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care in Richland on Thursday, August 18, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Cremation will take place afterwards, with inurnment at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date.
