Ms. Barbara P. Jones

The sunset for Barbara Patricia Jones (Pat) of Waterbury, CT came on November 6, 2022, after a long illness. She passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born on July 16, 1946, in Waterbury, CT to the late Franklin Alvin Jones Sr. and his wife, the late Euraleece Tucker-Jones. Barbara was a lifetime member of Grace Baptist Church, She was educated in the Waterbury school system, graduating from Margret Croft High School. Barbara worked at Bank of Boston, formerly Colonial Bank as Manager of Mortgage Servicing for 23 years. After leaving the bank, she opened Barbara's Day Care in her basement. This led her to purchase a building on Bucks Hill Road expanded her business into Rainbow Academy, where she provided over 30 years of quality childcare and education to hundreds of children throughout the greater Waterbury Area. She was proud to be CEO/Owner of Rainbow Academy one of largest black owned business in Waterbury. Barbara was recognized for her several achievements, including Co-chairwoman of the Brass City Childcare Professional Home Daycare Association, President of the Greater Waterbury Childcare Association, in 2005 she was elected "Waterbury Mayor for a Day", of the largest black owned business in the Greater Waterbury, She was a member or the Greater Waterbury National Political Congress of Black Woman, the Volunteer Mentor for Grandville Academy, She received the NAACP award for High Standers of Excellence and NAACP Freedom Fund Award and many others too numerous to mention. Barbara was the epitome of class and grace. Her hobbies included traveling, sewing, walking, and gardening. Her biggest joy was spending time with her family. Barbara leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Terri Jones-Cooper (Victor) of Hamden, CT; two sons, Todd Jones, and Tracy Jones, both of Waterbury. Her life partner, Mr. James Jackson of Waterbury, five brothers and one sister, Melvin Jones (Rosalyn) Lithonia GA, Stephen Jones (Manuela) Hutchinson KS, David Jones (Gloria), Rochelle Minter, Kenneth Jones (Kim), all of Stone Mountain GA. and Kevin Jones (Donna) of Farmington, CT. Barbara was a loving 'Grams' to 22 grandchildren, 27 great grands, one great-great grandson, and a host of nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Rosemary Jones-Scott, Elizabeth Jones and brother, Franklin Jones, Jr.
