John "Charles" Dominy

1943 - 2026

John "Charles" Dominy, 82 of Duluth, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026. Born September 21, 1943, in Dublin, Georgia to William C. "Peck" Dominy and Anne Sherrod Dominy. Charles was the oldest of four children and father of one son. He was an intellectual person with focuses on a vast number of topics including economics, philosophy, and astronomy. Pursuits in German language and literature brought him to undergraduate studies at Georgia Tech and Emory University, and graduate studies at Rice University and the University of Tennessee. After completing his studies in 1970, he taught German language and literature at Newberry College. Charles later moved to a career in computer programming working for Life of Georgia (IBM Programming), Management Science America (MSA), Dun & Bradstreet and later as an independent consultant. Charles loved reading, listening to his favorite slide guitar music by Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bonnie Raitt, Robert Johnson, and Ry Cooder and he enjoyed classical music by Bach and Holst. He was also an avid slide guitar player practicing in his home office daily. His legacy is one of great intellect and creativity. Charles will be deeply missed by all who knew him and his memories will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched. Charles was loved and survived by his son Brian Alan Dominy (Christine) of Kennesaw, brothers William Sherrod Dominy (Linda) of Tucker, James Stephen Dominy of Doraville, Michael Alan Dominy of Atlanta, grandchildren Brittani Chappell, Isabelle Dominy and Samuel Dominy of Kennesaw, great grandchildren Kaylee and Zoey Chappell of Kennesaw, niece Ellen Dominy of Atlanta. A memorial service will be held Saturday, 1:00pm, April 4th in the Chapel of Marietta Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:00am - 1:00pm, prior to the service.
