Doctor Who Star
Bernard Cribbins was a British actor who had a lengthy and prestigious career. He starred as Doctor Who’s companion Tom Campbell in the 1966 film “Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 A.D.” British children would know Cribbins as station porter Albert Perks in the 1970 film “The Railway Children” and as the narrator of the children’s series “The Wombles.” He returned to the “Doctor Who” universe in the revival TV series from 2007 until 2010 as Wilfred Mott, the grandfather of Donna, played by Catherine Tate. Cribbins had a memorable guest appearance on the sitcom “Fawlty Towers,” as a salesman mistaken by John Cleese’s character for a hotel inspector. He recorded novelty songs and had a top ten hit in the UK in 1962 with “Right Said Fred.” The UK pop band Right Said Fred named themselves after the song.
