Chauncy Glover (1985–2024), Emmy-winning news anchor

by Linnea Crowther

Chauncy Glover was a news anchor at KCAL in Los Angeles and KTRK in Houston, where he was known for his philanthropy and mentorship.

Chauncy Glover’s legacy

In the early years of Glover’s news career, he worked in Columbus, Georgia and Jacksonville, Florida. He began making an impact with his award-winning story, “Chauncy’s Journey,” in which he traveled from Jacksonville to his hometown of Athens, Alabama and reunited with his family after tornadoes had torn through the area.

In 2011, Glover joined WDIV in Detroit, where he ultimately won three Emmy Awards for his work. A life-changing moment for Glover happened there when, sent to cover a breaking-news shooting, he witnessed the death of one of the victims, a young man who had attempted a robbery. The incident inspired him to found The Chauncy Glover Project, which provides mentorship to inner-city teenaged boys. More than 1,000 have participated in the program, and through it, hundreds have successfully gone on to college.

Glover moved on to Houston’s KTRK in 2015, becoming the station’s first Black male evening anchor. Two years later, he was part of another dramatic moment as he was covering Hurricane Harvey. While helping rescue people from the flooding, he came across a pregnant woman who had gone into labor. Glover helped deliver her baby before the rescue team was able to get her to the hospital.

He had only recently moved on to Los Angeles, joining the KCAL team in October 2023 and co-anchoring their evening news. In addition to his career as a broadcast journalist, Glover was also a stage actor and singer. He sang at the funeral of Rosa Parks (1913–2005)
